Circulation Desk Library Assistant IV
Position Summary
Half-time position (20 hours per week) in Circulation. During scheduled shifts this position Independently coordinates and oversees daily operations of the MSU Libraries Circulation Desk and the entire Main Library building. This includes overseeing Circulation department workflow, supervision/training of student staff, resolving patron complaints, explaining, and interpreting complex library policies, creating and troubleshooting complex computer records, cash handling, handling non-routine situations, etc. Responsible for the safety of patrons and the collections of the MSU Libraries, security within the Main Library (including coordinating emergency procedurestornados, fire, power failure, fire alarms, etc.), safeguarding the collections, troubleshooting printers and compact shelving equipment, other duties as assigned. Provides liaison to MSU Police (for crimes in building), Custodial and Infrastructure Planning and Facilities (IPF) for building problems, and outside vendors for other equipment. Duties associated with this position involve moderate physical effort (moving heavy carts filled with books) and working on a computer at least 50% of the time.

Work schedule changes every semester to meet staffing needs of the unit. The work schedule will mainly consist of morning shifts (starting at 7:45am) but on occasion may include mid-day, evening, weekend or holiday shifts. Schedule may change for training or to cover for other staff during illness, vacation, and semester breaks
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an office setting; experience with integrated library systems; experience within the last one to two years working a public service desk in an academic library; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Detail oriented with high level of accuracy; ability to identify and resolve problems exercising excellent judgment; ability to handle varied, multiple, and competing project priorities. Experience with supervising and/or training others. Knowledge of the following computer software/websites: FOLIO, print.msu.edu, ILLiad, the MSU Library online catalog, and MSU Library electronic resources. Detailed familiarity with MSU Library policies and University Enterprise Business System (EBS). Ability to collaborate well with others and help to foster a welcoming environment. Must have excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and be able to interact professionally and effectively with the library's multi-cultural/multi-generational students, faculty, staff, and community patrons.
