We emphasize collaboration and teamwork because the problems being solved are extremely challenging and require contributions from people with expertise in many disciplines. If you are interested in working at the forefront of robotics and AI technologies with a creative team of great people, Palladyne AI could be the place for you!

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced UX/UI Lead to drive the design and development of user-centered interfaces for our AI-powered robotics software solutions. As part of the product team, you will work closely with engineers, product managers, and AI experts to create intuitive, efficient, and visually compelling user experiences. Your role will be critical in making complex robotics software accessible and user-friendly for operators, engineers, and managers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead UX/UI Design Strategy: Define and execute the overall UX/UI vision for enterprise class AI robotics software, ensuring consistency and usability across all touchpoints (desktop, mobile, web).
  • User Research & Testing: Conduct user research (e.g., user testing, surveys, analytics) to inform design decisions, solving complex problems with user-centric design principles and human factors best practices.
  • Collaboration: Partner with product managers, software engineers, and AI experts to translate business needs and user feedback into effective design solutions.
  • Wireframes, Prototypes & Visual Design: Create wireframes, interactive prototypes, high-fidelity mockups, and final visual designs, ensuring designs are optimized for performance and developer-friendly.
  • Information Architecture: Develop and maintain an efficient information architecture that supports intuitive navigation and a seamless user experience, especially for complex data and robotics systems.
  • Design System Development: Create and maintain a design system that ensures consistency in UI components, patterns, and interaction models across products.
  • Accessibility & Usability: Ensure designs meet accessibility standards, incorporating ergonomic and cognative considerations for diverse user groups, including industrial operators, engineers, and managers.
  • Human Factors Integration: Conduct human factors analysis (e.g., task analysis, cognitive load assessments) to ensure designs meet operator needs, reduce errors, and improve user safety and comfort.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest UX/UI best practices and AI/robotics technologies, as well as customer feedback, continuously evaluating and improving the product's user experience.
Qualifications:
  • Experience: 7+ years of professional UX/UI design experience, ideally within industrial software, robotics, AI, or related technical fields.
  • Portfolio: Strong portfolio demonstrating the ability to design complex, data-rich, and user-friendly interfaces for technical products or industrial applications.
  • User-Centered Design: Expertise in user-centered design methodologies, including user research, personas, user journey mapping, wireframing, and prototyping.
  • UI Design: Advanced skills in creating high-fidelity designs using tools like Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, or similar. Experience with UI frameworks and design systems is highly preferred.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Proficient in prototyping tools (e.g., InVision, Proto.io, Figma) with strong experience conducting usability testing and iterating based on user feedback.
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of technical constraints and software development, particularly in AI and robotics. Ability to communicate design concepts clearly to engineering teams and translate technical concepts into intuitive user interfaces.
  • AI/Robotics Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with AI-driven systems, industrial robotics, or manufacturing automation is highly desirable.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and mentor a team of designers, fostering a collaborative and creative environment.
  • Agile Methodology: Experience working in Agile development environments, balancing competing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, or related fields.
  • Robotics Programming Interfaces (Preferred): Familiarity with robotics programming interfaces (e.g., ROS, PLCs) is a plus.
  • Data Visualization (Preferred): Strong understanding of data visualization principles, with experience presenting complex data in an intuitive and accessible manner for non-technical users.
  • Resume must include a link to your design portfolio showcasing your work.
