As the Nucleic Acid Reagent Technologies Chapter Lead (Chapter Lead), you will be a member of the Reagent Research & Design (RRD) Chapter Area Leadership Team within the Research & Development (R&D) organization at Roche Diagnostics Solutions (RDS). In this position, you will be the leading figure and key point of contact for Roche Diagnostics' capabilities in Nucleic Acid Reagent Technologies. You will improve the Chapter's overarching expertise based on current and upcoming needs to deliver on network priorities (e.g. upcoming portfolio investments with new technology skills needed). You will play a key role in crafting and implementing key aspects of RRD's mid- to long-term strategy and ultimately contribute to the overall Roche Diagnostics Vision.
As the Chapter Lead, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining and advancing the scientific expertise, technological standards, and capabilities of the Chapter. Serving as the Center of Excellence for nucleic acid reagent research and design, you will ensure the development of world-class methods, processes, and products. You will be responsible for enhancing the capabilities of Chapter members, comprising expert teams focused on complex nucleic acid reagent design technology and development projects across two locations: Pleasanton and Santa Clara, USA.
* You will ensure the smooth transfer of nucleic acid reagent designs (oligonucleotide primers and probes, modified nucleotides, labels and dyes, nucleic acid reagents for DNA sequencing, etc) and processes developed in the Chapter to development teams and global Operations in close coordination with the interface partners.
* You will be responsible for designing and optimizing Chapter members' personal professional journey and coaching your direct reports; you will act as a role model for Agile Leadership behaviors.
* You will partner primarily with the Chapter Area and Network Leads and Chapter Leaders within Research & Development (R&D) for the different Customer Business Areas. You will be interacting with R&D chapters/networks, global functions (Operations, Quality &Regulatory), Customer Areas Lifecycle Teams (LCT's), external partners and academic centers.
* You will ensure Roche Diagnostics' capabilities in Nucleic Acid Reagent Technologies thrive by: * Leveraging a consolidated view of the Chapter's capabilities to represent the most senior level of specialized expertise in the field of nucleic acid reagents towards Business and other Functions
* Defining the short and long term capability needs for the Chapter to deliver on the Function's and Network's strategy, and execute on it, ultimately advancing the Function's expertise and helping our Customer Areas and LCT's to achieve their business objectives
* Establishing and further developing best practices and thought leadership for all aspects pertaining to RRD Nucleic Acid Reagent Technologies; exemplifying the principle of proactive and continuous improvement
* Maintaining and developing all assets and partnerships related to Nucleic Acid Reagent Technologies that are owned by Roche Diagnostics, such as development and implementation of reagents for novel sequencing and target amplification (e.g. PCR) technologies, including nucleic acid sample preparation, sequencing library prep reagents, as well as various chemical analytical processes and methods.
* Promote fluidity of Chapter members' capabilities (as needed) to easily support different business needs across Networks
* You will develop and empower, a knowledgeable, effective and efficient group of subject matter experts (SMEs) within the Chapter with the capabilities to support Roche Diagnostics' efforts with best-in-class expertise; ensuring personal & professional development is a priority
* You will support access to the right resources; facilitating access to the necessary resources to drive success; enabling effective cross-functional collaborations by ensuring the appropriate assignment of functional partner roles within the Chapter; collaborating closely with key R&D internal partners, to deliver best-in-class solutions and reagent design technology roadmaps, including development processes with strategic impact.
* You will support the Legal and Business Development teams in managing the in- and out-licensing of relevant intellectual property and identifying partnering opportunities, ensuring alignment with the RDS business strategy.
* You will be responsible for planning the budget of the organizational unit and ensuring its adherence in a functionally appropriate and efficient manner.

Who You Are:
(Required)
* You have an advanced degree (Masters and/or PhD) in Chemistry, Biochemistry or other relevant Life Sciences field of study and 10+ years of experience in R&D management of a chemistry group in the Biotechnology industry (Diagnostics, Pharmaceuticals, Life Sciences Research).
* You have the ability to work in a complex matrix environment with individuals at all levels of the organization; you have demonstrated business acumen and the ability to deliver results within budgetary limits.
* You have demonstrated leadership skills: the ability to lead and manage R&D groups including PhD level scientists and people leaders working on complex projects, resulting in peer reviewed publications and/or issued patents, early development of prototype assays, and commercial products.
* You have proven success in creating a high-performing environment with a strong reputation for attracting, developing, and inspiring top talent, supported by clear objectives and a well-defined framework.
Preferred:
* You have experience in nucleic acid chemistry training and in the design of polymerase chain reaction assays or DNA sequencing methods.
* You have demonstrated leadership experience, promoting innovation through a creative approach, demonstrating high self-awareness, and excelling in coaching and mentoring other leaders and partners.
* You possess excellent relationship-building, networking, and communication skills, coupled with a collaborative leadership style; you are skillful in analyzing and resolving problems efficiently and effectively.

This position is based on a site in Pleasanton, CA or Santa Clara, CA. (This is not a hybrid position.)

As this position is a global role, international business travel may be required. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $210,500 - $391,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
