TERM OF EMPLOYMENT
Title: Communications and Marketing Specialist
FLSA: Exempt
Shift: Full-time with benefits
Terms of Employment: 260 Days / Twelve Months
Employee Group: Support / Compensation Agreement
Location: Administration building
Pay Range: MIN $30.26 MID $36.32 MAX $42.37
Vacancies are generally hired between the min-mid; additional compensation may be considered for highly qualified applicants.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or related feild with related experience
2. 3-5 years of experience in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related field with related area
3. 3-5 years demonstrated experience in media operations and public relations functions including writing, editing, and public speaking
4. 3-5 years demonstrated skills with computers and desktop publishing skils
5. 3-5 years deminstrated organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
6. 3-5 years demonstrated ability to multi-task and ability to operating and handling video/camera production equipment
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Serves as information liaison between the total school system and the community at large and speaks at public and community meetings on issues of general or specific pertinence to District schools and programs at the request of the superintendent.
2. Demonstrates understanding of and abides by federal, state and local school laws and regulations, mandated programs, District policies and administrative regulations and applicable collective bargaining agreements with District employees. Recommend changes to district policies or administrative regulations relative to communications.
3. Develops and manages the financial budget for the communications department to meet the annual objectives of the District's public information program.
4. Serves as the District spokesperson and liaison officer between the District and media; and produces and distributes all District press releases and coordinates all public relations efforts as well as serving as speech writer for the Superintendent, when necessary.
5. Coordinates all District publications (except student publications) including the District calendar, news magazine, promotional brochures, informational materials for new staff and parents and any additional special publications.
6. Coordinates the marketing and promotion of District events and programs.
7. Manages District communications with parents, staff and students via several electronic mediums, including a mass parent notification system and various social networking sites.
8. Serves as the site administrator and content editor of the District Web site.
9. Coordinates and manages the student data collection process via the personalized Web site system through parent mailers and electronic communications.
10. Maintains open lines of communication with all community organizations; maintains an updated file of community organizations and their officers, mailing lists of community volunteers, and contact information on local officials/politicians; and provides prompt responses to requests for public information about the District, Board, policies and programs.
11. Advises the Superintendent and Board on potential public relations consequences relating to school events and shifts in existing programs and policies and attends all Board functions.
12. Stays abreast of professional practices in the field.
13. Coordinates and hosts several annual events for the community, staff and parents and utilizes total quality management concepts in fulfilling all school and community functions.
14. Maintains confidentiality of information not that should not be released or shared without appropriate permission.
