Head of Content, Leadership Institute in NEW YORK, New York

The Wall Street Journal Leadership Institute is designed to help business leaders master a world of accelerating change. To succeed, they need not only good information — which the Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones have traditionally provided them — but also a means for continuously honing their abilities to manage their people through a daunting array of challenges — whether from disruptive new technologies, an evolving geopolitical landscape, a changing energy paradigm, rising stakeholder demands, or shifting workplace norms. The Leadership Institute is comprised of executive peer communities, a variety of content and experiences for members, and unique access to data only available within Dow Jones.

We are seeking an experienced and creative Head of Content to own the content strategy for the Leadership Institute. Responsible for defining the overall content strategy, selecting and securing top-tier speakers across events, media and digital channels, this role will drive what the Leadership Institute programs for its members, how we approach the topics and priorities that are top of mind for our members and business, and the way the Leadership Institute (LI) navigates current events.

This is a leadership role that requires a strong combination of strategic thinking, creative vision, and team management.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and curate the content for live events, including determining themes, topics, and session formats.
  2. Ensure the content strategy supports the overarching marketing, event, and sales goals.
  3. Track content performance and engagement metrics across all channels.
  4. Direct the creation of high-quality, engaging, and on-brand content for multiple platforms, including the LI website, social media, newsletters, video content, and more.
  5. Oversee content production, ensuring deadlines are met and quality is maintained.
  6. Use data and insights to optimize content strategy, improve content quality, and enhance audience engagement.
  7. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with a network of speakers, thought leaders, industry experts, and influencers across a range of industries, including business, entertainment, technology, and more.
  8. Understand the unique needs of clients and the audience to ensure talent selections align with event goals and themes.
  9. Develop and execute creative strategies to attract high-profile talent to our events and speaking engagements.
  10. Ensure pipeline of experts across all industries that can support events in a variety of formats - speaker on mainstage, panel participant, hosting breakouts, interviewing on camera and more.
  11. Manage team that secures talent for all programming.
  12. Work closely with the events team to develop content for live and virtual events, including speaker presentations, panel discussions, workshops.
  13. Manage, mentor, and grow the content team (writers, videographers, etc.), providing guidance and fostering a collaborative, creative environment.
  14. Establish the company as a thought leader in the events industry by producing insightful, trend-driven content that showcases the company’s expertise and innovative approach to event experiences.
  15. Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate content across all initiatives, ensuring alignment with key business objectives and initiatives.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  2. 20+ years of content creation and strategy experience, with at least 10 years in a leadership role. Experience in the events or experiential industries is highly preferred.
  3. Strong network of industry contacts, with the ability to secure high-profile speakers.
  4. Knowledge of business trends and the ability to create engaging content for diverse event formats (in-person, virtual, hybrid).
  5. Exceptional leadership, communication, and project management skills.
