Publicity Assistant, Harmony Books, Rodale Books & Convergent Books (Hybrid) The Random House publicity department is currently seeking a Publicity Assistant to join the Harmony Books, Rodale Books, and Convergent Books team. Harmony, Rodale, and Convergent Books are three distinct industry leaders in publishing prescriptive narrative non-fiction, illustrated food and lifestyle, self-improvement, health, wellness, spirituality, parenting, and business empowerment books. Based in New York, Harmony, Rodale, and Convergent are part of Penguin Random House, LLC, the world's largest general trade book publisher. This position will report to the VP & Sr Dir, Publicity and Deputy Director of the Harmony, Rodale and Convergent imprints and support the team across high-profile non-fiction campaigns. This position provides an intensive education in trade book publishing in a fast-paced, exciting, and highly collaborative environment. Responsibilities include: Assistance in carrying out high-impact publicity campaigns, notably in non-fiction, cookbooks, lifestyle, health, wellness and spirituality. This role is charged with aiding the team with high-profile projects and a wide array of bestselling authors and is an ideal position for a curious, confident, self-motivated person who loves books across genres, consuming media, enjoys a fast-paced environment, and is interested in learning how to execute publicity strategy. This in-office role is based in New York City and will require someone in commutable distance to accompany the Directors to various author interviews, attend various author events, and mail books out as needed. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance at least 3 days a week in our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA). Day-to-day tasks will include: • Responding to a variety of calls from media, authors, and booksellers, and communicating between related in-house departments • Handling detailed tour and media schedules for campaigns • Coordinating travel and other essential arrangements for major author tours • Coordinating and executing review copy mailings • Gathering and organizing press clips • Drafting publicity materials, including galley letters, press releases, and pitches • Liaising with bookstores for author events • Processing invoices, maintaining title budgets on campaigns, and helping with data entry related to department budgets • Performing online research to acquire publicity contacts and updating media lists • Coordinating logistics for meetings, including securing conference rooms, coordinating calendar schedules, preparing meeting materials, and taking notes • Providing general administrative support, including answering phones, taking messages, photocopying, filing, expense reporting, etc. The Essentials: • Strong interest in book publishing, publicity and media relations • Engaged curiosity in news, social media, culture, and books across genres (especially nonfiction) • Proactive with the ability to think creatively • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Self-starter who takes initiative • Ability to juggle priorities in a deadlines-driven environment • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel The salary for this position is $51,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results. Penguin Random House job postings include a good faith compensation range for each open position.
