The Technical Writer works cross-functionally with product, design, support, engineering, sales, services, and marketing teams to document our software products. This includes creating new content as well as updating existing content across all our technical publications.
A successful Technical Writer is someone who can communicate with software engineers/programmers at their level while being able to translate complex, technical solutions to non-technical people. They are knowledgeable about software documentation design and best practices. They are also experienced with writing for the web and passionate about using their skills to help others succeed.
Job Duties:
- Manage the day-to-day maintenance of multiple documentation repositories.
- Create and maintain technical specification documents for new product development.
- Participate in pre-release product reviews and planning activities.
- Test software to ensure that it performs as specified.
- Create step-by-step process documents and user walkthroughs.
- Create example projects to demonstrate that documentation is well-written and easily digestible.
- Create and revise content for product knowledge bases and other technical publications.
- Edit, standardize, and revise material prepared by support agents, product managers, designers, engineers, quality assurance specialists, and marketing teams.
- Assist product and design teams in creating content for in-app messaging and support.
- Work with other team members throughout the organization to collect feedback and improve our technical publications.
- Create content that is accurate, comprehensive, concise, understandable, accessible, and trustworthy.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree in English, Communications or a related field.
- 5+ years of technical writing experience in a software development environment.
- Skilled at making complex concepts and/or technical products easy to understand for a business / non-technical audience.
- Ability to deliver high-quality external documentation with high attention to detail.
- Knowledgeable about software systems and web applications.
- Experienced with writing and structuring content for knowledge bases/online help.
- Experienced working with at least one web-based content management system or authoring tool (Zendesk Guide, MadCap Flare, Loopio, etc.).
- Knowledge of current technical writing methods, trends, and technologies, especially knowledgeable about writing for the web and UX best practices.
- Familiar with web-based programming languages (XML, HTML, CSS, CDL, Javascript, etc.).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Superior spelling, proofreading, grammar, and editing skills.
- Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and well organized.
- Demonstrates the ability to come up to speed quickly on new projects.
- Able to work effectively while balancing multiple tasks, independently or in groups.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools and image editing software (SnagIt, Screenpresso, etc.).

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $75,000 to $90,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to base salary and a competitive benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus or commission tied to achieved results.
