Job Summary
The Professional Writing Program in the Department of English at Purdue University invites applications for a full-time, Academic Year (9 month) position as a Lecturer beginning in August 2024. The position will include teaching general education, courses in the major, and assisting with program administration. Teaching graduate courses in professional writing or rhetoric and composition may also be possible, depending on qualifications, experience, and program needs.
Position Description
Professional development funds will be available through the program and department. This position may provide the opportunity for summer teaching, to be paid in addition to the academic year salary.
Qualifications
Required:
Masters degree in English, Communication, or related discipline. Experience teaching introductory professional writing at the college level.
Preferred:
Ph.D. in in English, Communication, or related discipline. Experience as a technical writer, content strategist, user experience specialist, or related employment.

Position Description
- Teach 24 credit hours per academic year, or the equivalent. Assigned duties are primarily in the Professional Writing program but can include adjacent areas in the Department of English. Some courses will need to be offered in person every semester.
- Follow curriculum guidelines and pedagogical best practices provided by the program, department, and university.
- Be responsive to students: teaching classes as assigned, holding office hours, and supporting their well-being and success.
- Be responsive to program needs: communicate in a timely fashion with staff and participate in professional development.
- Assist with program administration by attending weekly staff meetings, participating in assessment and program evaluation, supporting curriculum development, supporting student organizations, and other duties as assigned in consultation with the Director of Writing and Head.
