Writing Center tutors provide writing support to students from all disciplines. They provide tutoring assistance with composition and academic papers.
Under the supervision/line of sight of the Writing Center Lead Instructor, writing tutors are responsible for working with students in the following capacities: tutoring students one-on-one; tutoring students in group settings; providing workshops on topics such as composition, grammar, and study skills; working in coordination with assigned English faculty to support students as embedded tutors; tutoring students online/remotely; providing assistance to students in regards to the operations of the Writing Center and all of its services and resources; completing accurate and timely paperwork; as well as other related duties.
* Assist in the implementation and operations of the Writing Center tutoring service.
* Provide tutoring to students in one-on-one sessions (i.e. in person and/or online).
* Provide workshops to students in group settings (i.e. in person and/or online).
* Create handouts, presentations, and other documents to help students improve their understanding of course content particularly for workshop sessions.
* Present orientations about the Writing Center.
* Maintain and exhibit professionalism when conducting oneself as a writing tutor.
* Maintain currency of tutoring pedagogy and best practices for tutoring.
* Assist in promoting and administering Service Area Outcome surveys to students.
* Assist with the promotion of the Writing Center to faculty, students, and interested parties.
* Attend/complete Writing Center trainings and meetings.
* Maintain currency of all Writing Center policies, practices, and procedures.
* Complete and submit necessary paperwork in a timely manner including but not limited to time sheets, district employment verification paperwork, Writing Center employee hiring paperwork and Data Entry Forms.
* Maintain confidentiality of all students who use Writing Center services and securely maintain all data collected during the operations of the Writing Center including but not limited to attendance, grades, students' names and other information that can potentially identify anyone who participates in the Writing Center.
* Assist students/faculty as embedded tutors as assigned by the Lead Instructor.
* Model ideal student behavior and practices during embedded tutoring class sessions.
* Prepare for assigned readings during embedded tutoring class sessions.
* Work with students one-on-one (e.g. in person or online).
* Participate in Canvas discussions.
* Provide workshops to students (e.g. in person or online).
* Meet/make contact with assigned English 086/087 faculty to discuss session plans, to obtain and provide feedback on difficult content topics, to obtain additional resources, to improve understanding of course content, and to build rapport.
* Assist with other Writing Center related duties.
Minimum Requirements:
* Possess a degree of B.A./B.S. or higher
* Have the ability to communicate clearly with others
* Have strong academic writing skills
* Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
* Have exceptional teamwork skills and work ethic
* Be reliable
* Have enthusiasm with working with others
* Have proficient computer literacy skills (e.g. knowledgeable of word processing/editing programs, use of email, etc.)
Desired Qualifications:
* Have experience working in an educational setting
* Have experience working as a tutor/instructor
* Be well versed in explaining grammar
* Be knowledgeable of composition theories
* Be able to type 40 wpm

The person selected for hire will be required to complete the following pre-employment requirements:
* Submit to and successfully pass DOJ live scan/fingerprinting. Cost of live-scan services to be borne by candidate.
* Sealed official transcript(s) in envelope from institution or electronic copies emailed directly from institution (for positions with higher education requirement)
* Tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment
