Summary
The Creative Services Director serves as the college's lead art director and visual storyteller. The Director works in close alignment with team leaders across campus to ensure best-in-class creative assets are being utilized. Collaborating with various clients across campus allows the Director to bring each vision to life while aligning with Washington & Jefferson College's overarching brand strategy. As the brand champion for Washington & Jefferson College, the Director has an up to-date understanding of design & marketing trends.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serves as the lead visual storyteller for campus.
- Collaborates with team leaders across campus to ensure brand standards are being utilized.
- Leads the creative process and oversees the work from the creative leg of the Communications & Marketing team.
- Understands and manages the production of large and small print projects, from environmental graphics to simple stickers.
- Leads innovative, creative concepts for internal and external marketing projects and campaigns.
- Produces and directs visual content for print and digital media.
- Manages vendor relationships for creative services.
- Serves as a photographer and videographer capturing campus life, academic achievements, and key events across campus.
- Edits videography, and photography.
- Serves as the final review of all creative assets to ensure each piece meets the quality and brand standards of the College.
- Maintains database of creative assets (photographs, advertisements, etc.) that capture the essence of campus.
- Serves as lead designer for all necessary college assets (advertisements, catalogs, magazines, recruitment material, reports, etc.)
- Champions and protects the Washington & Jefferson College brand.
- Support brand positioning and strategy to elevate visibility and awareness of the College.
- Works with team to set and meet long-tenn project deadlines while adapting to immediate demands.
- Manages workflow, priorities and multiple projects and clients at once.
- Stay up-to-date with design trends, industry best practices, and emerging technologies to bring innovative and fresh ideas to the team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in graphic design, marketing, photography, or related field, and an online portfolio highlighting his/her work.
- I -3 years serving in a creative services leadership role.
- Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience in digital photography, editing and archiving.
- Videography skills.
- Strong design aesthetics with type, color, layout and composition.
- Technical knowledge of file preparation and procedures for print production.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Comprehension of logical page structure, readability, visual hierarchy, and balance.
- Must be motivated, flexible, detail-oriented, with strong organizational and team skills.
- Ability to take direction and adjust and adapt to feedback.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the College community, from students to the president and senior staff.
- Proof of organizational and project management skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Supervisory Duties
This position supervises the Graphic Designer & Student Workers.
