General Summary

Under general direction of the Director, Technical Standards and Requirements, the Technical Writer is responsible for the creation and maintenance of Portfolio Services Office (PSO) Engineering team documentation. This position is responsible for translating technical and/or complicated information into clear, concise documents appropriate for various target audiences. This position provides research, outlines, and writes and edits new and existing content, working closely with various departments and technical subject matter experts to understand project requirements. Independently gathers information from subject matter experts to develop, organize, and write procedure manuals, technical specifications, and process documentation. Develops content in alternative media forms for maximum usability, with a consistent and cohesive voice across all documentation. The deliverables will be a wide variety of technical documentation such as processes, procedures, specifications, guidance documents, technical reports, administrative material, and presentations for use by both Engineering and other user communities.

Essential Functions:
•Meeting with engineers and project managers to establish goals and expectations for technical documents.
•Takes the initiative to conduct interviews with technical individuals to obtain information and relevant details for writing assignments.
Makes recommendations for content organization, story flow, tone, and voice.
•Researching ST available templates and using them as appropriate.
•Edits, proofreads, and validates documents to ensure that quality and content objectives are met. Reviews and clarifies content with subject-matter experts. Formatting content as appropriate for its intended audience
•Analyze existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and removal of conflicting references.
•Maintains all documents in common repository and communicates with the team accordingly.
•Publishes documents into a secure system according to security guidelines and corporate procedures. May publish documents on ST's Intranet using SharePoint software.
•Translates complex technical topics into written communications that are clear, concise, accessible, and understandable by technical and non-technical individuals.
•Analyzes the target audience and adapts written information to their needs, priorities, and limitations.
•Works as an editor and provides constructive criticism.
•Ensures publication deadlines are met for all communication materials. Other Functions:

Minimum Qualifications:

Education & Experience:
•Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related discipline from an accredited college or university
•Three years of experience working in a technical writing position •Five years of experience working with MS Office products
•Experience editing engineering or industry-based documents in a professional environment.
•Experience writing content (in collaboration with subject matter experts) for various uses, including award and grant applications, white papers, technical papers, training modules, fact sheets, and brochures.
•Experience combining the contributions of multiple technical authors to create narratives with a unified "voice."
•Must have the ability to translate technical information into easily comprehended end products.
•Experience and fundamental skills to make complex content readable and relatable for various audiences.

Required Licenses or Certifications: None

Required Knowledge of:
•End-user experience using and/or administering SharePoint to manage documentation.
•Various software applications including those involved with drawing or publishing documents.
•Knowledge of working in Teams and Bluebeam environment.

Required Skill in:
•Knowledge of standard editing conventions, such as those in the current edition of The Chicago Manual of Style or the Associated Press Stylebook is desirable.
•Knowledge of CSI Master format is advantageous

•Work will be performed in a standard office environment and/or vi remote office.
