Position: Engineering Documentation Specialist - Technical Writer (Contract)

Location: ONSITE in Canonsburg, PA

Pay: Up to $36.30 per hour

Clearance Requirement: A DoD issued Active Secret security clearance is preferred at the time of hire. Candidates must be able to obtain a Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time from date of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.Due to the nature of work performed in the facility, U.S. citizenship is required.

GeoLogics is seeking a talented Engineering Documentation Specialist - Technical Writer to work with one of our aerospace and defense partners in Canonsburg, PA.

Job Overview:

As a Sr. Technical Writer, you will collaborate in a team environment to create and validate technical documentation for our Navy customers and sailors. Given our focus on defense and national security, accurate and clear documentation is essential for ensuring front-line decision makers have the best tools and information about our systems. Your mission is to produce exceptionally well-written and presented materials, and to develop the infrastructure and tools needed to create and maintain this documentation across our product range.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Creating technical procedures, user guides, release notes, troubleshooting guides, and descriptive documentation.
  • Work closely with engineering, product, and business teams throughout all phases of product development, including design, development, testing, and operation.
  • Your goal is to ensure that our customers have access to the right documentation at every stage.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • The ability to obtain a DoD issued Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in a specialized field or area and minimum of 2 years as a Engineering Documentation Specialist/Technical Writer (or 4 years with an Associate's / 6 years with a HS diploma or equivalent)
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and PDF file type formats
  • Understanding and demonstrated practice of documentation revision / version control
  • Experience reading and interpreting software and hardware user documentation, complex technical products, and highly structured certification processes
  • Experience working in digital collaboration environments such as Teams and SharePoint. Prior use of document automation platforms, for example PandaDoc, would be a benefit.
  • Basic development proficiency - we value the ability to apply technical best practices to documentation systems
  • Demonstrated passion for excellent documentation and user experiences
  • Clear and persuasive writing and in-person communication skills, for a variety of audiences

  • Contribute to our technical writing tools, working on everything from style guides to the documentation lifecycle and review process
  • Work with Engineering to deliver accurate and compliant documentation that not only informs and instructs, but provides a straightforward user experience
  • Solid knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to tailor communication to target audience through effective listening and interviewing skills
  • Solid understanding of DoD MIL standards and style guides and the ability to adhere to and implement such standards to technical documentation
  • Passion to learn new information quickly and handle increasing responsibilities with growing complexity
  • A team player who thrives in collaborative environments and revels in team success
  • The ability to thrive with a high level of autonomy and responsibility, managing competing demands and occasional tight deadlines
