Part-time Position Description
Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts
Public Trust required
Schedule: Part-Time; operation hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 8 am-4:30 pm. We are anticipating a transition to full-time (40 hours weekly) within one year.
The Volpe Center is conveniently located on the Red Line in Cambridge.
Position Overview:
As the Multimedia Technician and working alongside your team members, you will provide clients with on-site A/V support services in the form of conference room technical support, equipment troubleshooting, and equipment operational training for approximately 30 conference rooms of varying sizes and capabilities. All rooms are newly built using Crestron Flex audiovisual equipment integrated into Microsoft Teams Rooms that provides conferencing and meeting spaces to the user community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides audio/visual and collaborative technologies support to clients, responding to telephone calls, emails, and personnel requests for technical support throughout the campus.
- Perform all preparatory work and testing before each event to ensure that the equipment performs satisfactorily during each event.
- Performs troubleshooting of A/V devices, room control systems, microphones, projectors, audio units, and other related equipment in conference rooms and special event environments in the large conferencing center.
- Diagnoses problems both over the phone and performing in-person diagnostics.
- Records, prioritizes and tracks all assigned help calls and documents work efforts in a ticketing system.
- Simulates or recreates technical issues to resolve operating difficulties.
- Properly escalates issues to other teams and works to resolve more complex problems with supervisory guidance.
- Identifies, researches, documents, and resolves incidents.
- Performs A/V equipment set-ups and strikes in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring that equipment is correctly configured and operating properly for the event.
- Provides basic instruction/training for employees and executive management staff on the use of A/V equipment and resources as applicable.
- Updates internal support documentation and contributes to the development of client help documentation.
- Perform weekly conference room equipment checks to ensure all equipment is operational and ready for usage by the user community.
- Maintenance including bulb replacements, battery replacements, cleaning and maintenance of A/V equipment.
- Provides feedback on the replacement of equipment and upgrades, where applicable.
- Performs testing and quality assurance on presentation computer systems, A/V systems, and virtual conferencing software.
- Actively keeps abreast of A/V technologies and practices.
- Excellent verbal and written skills, and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills, as the desired applicant will interact with employees and executive management personnel.
- Ability to manage time and priorities to meet production deadlines.
- Must be highly motivated, creative, positive in approach, and able to work well alone and as part of a team.
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills; creative thinking.
- PC & Networking proficient (must already know your way around a Windows computer)
- Ability to set up, break down, and move AV equipment and gear.
- Must be able to work at heights, climb a ladder, lift to 50 pounds, and move up to 75 pounds across campus, utilizing AV carts and equipment movers.
- Microsoft Teams Rooms and Crestron Flex video conferencing systems experience preferred.
