Job Title Sports Media Assistant of Sports Information Position Summary

Texas Wesleyan University Athletics seeks an experienced Athletics Communications professional to fill the role of Sports Media Assistant of Sports Information. The Sports Media Assistant SID provides support to the Department of Sports Information in the accurate collection, dissemination, and maintenance of all information (current and historical), statistical data, marketing, public and media relations, strategic communication, and game day operations efforts for all 18 NAIA sponsored sports, as well as the Table Tennis, Cheer, and Dance teams at Texas Wesleyan.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Planning of Athletics department marketing, strategic communication, operations and content creation initiatives.

* Creating news and feature story writing and editing.

* Game day operations which include live stats, spotting for the stat inputter, game clock/scoreboard operator, official bookkeeping, shot clock operator, music producer, camera operator, etc.

* Maintenance of the TX Wes Athletic website.

* Management and maintenance of the Athletic social media account.

* Use and assist with statistical scoring software.

* Management of any live stream Athletic department broadcast.

* Work with Adobe suite software.

* Create, manage, and report data to conference and national offices when necessary.

* May assist with other duties as assigned.

Education, Certifications and/or Licenses

* A Bachelor's degree or higher in mass communication, public relations, journalism, marketing, business or related field is preferred.

Experience

* 1-2 years' experience working in the athletics communications field required.

* 2+ years working in a sports information or athletics communication office preferred.

* 4+years working in a NCAA or NAIA sports information or athletics communication office as an assistant, student assistant, intern, or combination of those positions highly desired.

* Graphics design, photo and video editing using Adobe suite products.

* Inputting and editing live stats for DakStats, Stat Crew, and/or NCAA Live Stats programs.

* Public Address, live stream play-by-play commentating, and experience producing live streams.

* Interest in and/or experience working with and serving on NAIA CoSIDA or conference committees desired.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

* Extensive knowledge of playing rules and procedures for the sports of Basketball, Football, Baseball, Volleyball, Softball, Soccer, Tennis and Wrestling.

* Knowledge of NAIA reporting procedures, SIDEARM Sports website maintenance, and APA format preferred.

* Knowledge of and experience using statistical software, including DakStats, Stat Crew, and NCAA Live Stats preferred.

* Knowledge of all scorer's table crew jobs for various sports, including scoreboard operation.

* Innovative spirit and team-based mindset highly desired.

* Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

* Strong organizational skills with the ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines while maintaining a high attention to detail.

* Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.

* Knowledge of basic public relations and communications principles.

* Knowledge of basic publication design, advertising, and marketing principles.

* Knowledge of the Dallas/Fort Worth media, or willingness to establish connections with outside media.

* Ability to maintain a positive approach under pressure.

* Proficiency with a desktop, an integrated administrative system and current software programs.

* Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

* Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills.

* Ability to be discrete in handling confidential matters, while complying with privacy regulations.

* Ability to use the Internet effectively including webpage construction and maintenance.

* Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

* Ability to write and edit a variety of materials for publication.

* Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to members of the media, current and former students, customers, clients, and other University employees.

* Ability to perform physical duties to satisfactory.
