Overview:
Abrons Arts Center's Arts is seeking a bilingual music educator to co-design and facilitate a song and music course titled Exploring Music Through Language,forearly childhood learners (3-5 year olds). The classes will take place at our Lower East Side arts center.
Course Description: Exploring Music Through Language
In this caregiver-and-child course, our littlest learners explore music through song and dance in a foreign language environment.Young learners and their grown ups play games, learn songs and dances in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese, while gaining an introduction to music theory and being exposed to two of NYC's largest foreign language communities.

Essential Physical Job Functions:
- Schedule: Saturdays 10am-11am; September 16 - December 15, 2024, with possibility of extension to 2025
- Type: Part time, Temporary
- Pay: $75/hr, non-exempt

- A facilitator with a strong ability to teach diverse learners of all ages and backgrounds
- Creative, confident, and highly skilled at designing arts curriculum that uplifts community members through the arts
- Highly collaborative and able to workcooperatively with the arts education team in problem-solving
- Enthusiastic and interested in contemporary arts practices and arts education innovation
- Committed to submitting lesson plans, time sheets, supply orders, and other administrative documents in timely manner
- Excited to continue growing your artistic practice in tandem with your teaching artistry
You have:
- 3+ years of music education experience
- 2+ years of early childhood education experience (3-5 year olds)
- Fluency in Spanish and/or Mandarin Chinese language
- A repertoire of Spanish and/or Mandarin songs and activities
- Proficiency in writing, designing and facilitating arts education curriculum
- Strong classroom management skills
- Proficiency in social-emotional learning methods
- Robust awareness and passion for contemporary musical genres and forms
- Conflict mediation and de-escalation skills
- Enthusiasm for working with young people
- Social adaptability and ability to work with a range of learning styles
- Concert and performance experience
You will support the Abrons Arts Education Program by:
- Developing and implementing an innovative curriculum that includes accessible activities for early childhood learners in music, movement and language
- Cultivating a classroom environment that is consent-based and affirming to learners of all genders identities, body types, and skill levels
- Being responsive to learning styles and being committed to building a sense of community and belonging
- Having a demonstrated interest inprofessional development and growth of teaching artistry

Essential Physical Job Functions:
- Must be New York City based and be present on-site to instruct classes
- Possessing or obtaining de-escalation training
- Must be COVID-19 vaccinated
- Must be able to move throughout our 40,000+ square foot facility that includes stairs, ramps, indoor and outdoor spaces
