Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an OSP Designer to join our Utility Design Engineering team in Ohio! This is a remote position with the expectation to be near Columbus or Cincinnati. The UDE team works with industry leading internet service providers across the United States to provide network engineering services.

Our telecommunications design professionals have years of experience working in the fiber optic, coax and copper construction field preparing for outside (OSP) plant installations. As leaders within the industry, we work with communities on broadband deficit solutions, deploying fiber to upgrade aging technology to 5G, and addressing utility relocations. Our design services include fiber-to-tower, Enterprise, FTTX, oDAS and iDAS, and distributed architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Design/draft permit drawings with guidance.
  • Assist with fielding tasks (Engineering Design Notetaking for both buried and aerial, pole data collection, etc.).
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of applicable building codes, design codes (NEC, NESC, etc.).
  • Review jurisdiction documentation and determine design parameters within Right-Of-Way with parameters provided.
  • Identify required permits with parameters provided.
  • Identify basic components for site design in a Telecommunications fiber network.
  • Exhibit understanding of basic Telecom, Fiber - Outside Plant (OSP) design (FTTX, MDU, wiring diagrams, splicing schematics, equipment types, etc.) and design FTTX network with parameters provided.
  • Prepare specialty drawings (i.e., Utility Company submittals, Railroads, Interstate crossings, landmark designs, etc.) with parameters provided.
  • Review jurisdiction documentation and determine permitting requirements.
  • Compile permit application packages with parameters provided.
  • Design Fiber-Optic network (FTTx) using ArcGIS software, or client designated software, with parameters provided.
  • Work with numerous project teams to help in project completion.
  • Address assignments of increased difficulty as proficiency is increased.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in related field or completion of technical degree program required.
  • Linear and OSP design experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to field verify Underground and Aerial install.
  • Ability to communicate with local entities reasons for existing/proposed design and to the team for design changes.
  • Ability to identify Telecommunication infrastructure above and below ground.
  • Ability to or desire to learn how to locate Telecommunication facilities with locating equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and represent the client and CED in a professional manner.
  • Ability to travel within the state of OH, and possibly outside the state to assist in fielding functions.
  • Ability to complete/learn pole data collection with Katapult or IKE.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
