Designers work under general direction, applying their skills and expertise to generate designs and drawings to support Logan's manufacturing and other operations. Successful Designers are self-motivated and work effectively in team or individual situations, have excellent communication skills, and can handle multiple projects and activities simultaneously.
While we recognize that a designer on a project team is not solely responsible or has control over the whole project, design is a critical element. Teamwork and communication on the designer's part are paramount to achieving success.
RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Promote safety. Always wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in required situations.
- Maintain a high level of integrity; to be successful your team needs to trust and respect you.
- Strive to fulfill objectives laid out by the Logan Industries' and Engineering Department's Mission Statements.
- Collaborate in a team environment with engineers and designers of other disciplines, also with project managers and other team members outside of Engineering.
- Meet project objectives and key performance indicator (KPI) targets:
- On-time delivery of drawings and other assigned documentation.
- On-time and in-budget delivery of equipment to our customers.
- Equipment performance meets specification and customer expectations.
- Learn and follow all required SOP's, Work Instructions, and other applicable Logan procedures.
- Determine approach to, develop high quality, cost effective, creative solutions, designs, and drawings for complex new products, projects, and systems.
- Assist in the commercialization of client projects. This includes value engineering and utilizing efficient design techniques.
- Work with engineers of assigned discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic) and receive direction to produce models, drawings, schematics, BOM/parts lists, manuals, test procedures, and other deliverables.
- Produce structured BOMs and various types of drawings including Fabrication, Machining , Assembly, Enclosure Layouts, Schematics, layout/installation, etc.
- Select components based on past experience and input from engineering team.
- Help source available materials and components used in the design.
- Coordinate with shop to optimize designs.
- Input part and drawing data into PDM document management system; transfer information to our Epicor ERP system.
- Maintain project status visibility using the DVPR tool, email, and other communication methods.
- Attend meetings on-site and at other facilities, including locations offshore and abroad.
- Suggest, justify, and implement design changes modifications and improvements.
- Receive technical guidance on unusual or complex problems; also seek out guidance on own initiative.
- Expand knowledge base in leadership, in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical fields, and other areas.
- Senior roles require leading and mentoring junior designers in support of assigned projects.
- Perform all other assigned duties.
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficient with Solidworks, specifically including functions for parts, weldments, assemblies, and drawings.
- Able to model and draw complex machinery and systems, including heat exchangers, pressure vessels, cylinders, hoists/winches, HPUs, reelers, and other machinery, utilizing guidance from engineers as required.
- Proficient with good modeling techniques to keep design tree simple and easy to work on.
- Proficient reading and creating manufacturing drawings
- Have ability to learn and incorporate design requirements from specifications (DNV, ABS, API, ASTM, ISO, ASME, etc).
- Proficient with other software:
- AutoCAD / Draftsight
- Management software including Solidworks PDM Vault, Epicor ERP, Logan DVPR tool.
- Common software including Windows, Word, Excel, email, calendars, image manipulation.
- Other software as necessary
- Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- This job occasionally requires the employee to be outside and in production areas, stand, walk, sit, use hands, lift objects, climb stairs, reach overhead, balance, stoop, kneel, read, talk and hear.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of experience required designing custom machinery, at least 1 of which for the Oil and Gas industry. (For mid-level position)
- AS degree in Drafting, or equivalent experience.
