General Description

Essential Functions
- Prepares and teaches children and teen classes with an emphasis on literacy and learning.
- Builds displays and actively manages the youth areas of the library.
- Actively participates in the maintenance of a thriving youth collection including print and digital materials.
- Prepares the curriculum for classes, seminars, and events for adults related to children's education.
- Delivers research assistance to the public and assists customers with circulation and reader's advisory needs.
- Participates in system-wide committees and workgroups.
- Develops and maintains partnerships with local schools and other youth serving organizations to further the mission of the library.
- Coordinates and participates in special events in the community.
- Serves as being a designated person in charge of the branch including the work of paraprofessionals and other library team members.
- Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
Education, Training, and Experience
- Bachelor's degree. Master's degree in Library Science or related coursework, preferred.
- Professional public library work experience with considerable knowledge of children's literature.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration, Skills
- Valid Florida Driver License (or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida), or valid Florida Identification Card is acceptable only for positions not required to drive a county vehicle.
- Ability to work after normal business hours (may include nights, weekends, and holidays).
- Requires strong organizational skills and must be very detailed oriented.
- Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) in a clear, confident manner using proper grammar.
- Ability to handle the coordination of multiple projects, meet deadlines, and demonstrate an ability to analyze and solve problems independently.
- Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
- Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.), use of internet, specialized online research tools, office applications and other library related programs.
- Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:
- IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); and
- IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- Requires a combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
- The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 20 pounds.
- The job requires frequent balancing, and occasional bending and squatting.
- The job requires the completion of tasks that involve typing, fine manual manipulation, and simple grasping.
