Job Description
The City of Appleton is seeking a Library Page Clerk - Regular Part Time. This is a non-exempt benefited position responsible for processing and preparing library materials for circulation. This position works 20 hours a week. Evening and weekend work is required. Work is supervised by a section assistant supervisor and the section supervisor.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
•Check in library materials from exception bin and check for missing pieces and damaged items
•Sort all formats of library materials from sorting bins onto carts
•Route/mail materials to owning or requesting libraries
•Print out patron information for reserves
•Respond to phone requests for materials in sorting area
•Put in order and reshelve materials that have been returned or used at the library
•Maintain proper and neat arrangements of library materials
•Prepare newspapers and periodicals for display and circulation
•Process new books
•Manage and respond to issues with automated materials handling conveyor system and RFID technology
•Maintains regular punctual and predictable attendance, works overtime and extra hours as required.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
•Extra Tasks - making labels, end signs, microfilm labels, etc.
•Special projects, sometimes involving working cooperatively with other library sections
•Answer questions or refer patrons to public service desk
•Tagging materials with RFID tags, troubleshooting and repairing problem tags
•Assist with processing books in technical services
Typical Qualifications
A high school diploma and or equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
•Knowledge of the Dewey decimal system
•Good organizational skills
•The ability to sort materials alphabetically and numerically quickly and accurately
•Knowledge of general library services and practices
•Tactful and courteous communication skills
•Ability to work as a team member, maintain effective relationships with coworkers
•Computer skills: soft reboot, keyboarding, blogging , utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and Outlook
•Ability to learn library's circulation software
•Ability to work in a fast-paced, stressful and noisy environment
•Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
•Ability to reach shelving within a height range of three inches to 75 inches, lift up to 30 pounds, pull and push heavy bins and push a loaded book cart (300 lbs.) on carpeting
•Ability to stand, bend, reach or walk for most of a work shift
•Ability to adapt to continually changing procedures and work environment
•Ability to work independently
