UPPER ELEMENTARY/MIDDLE SCHOOL MUSIC EDUCATION TEACHER

JOB GOAL:
  • Upper Elementary/Middle School Music Teachers provide students with basic vocal instruction and teach them about various instruments, including percussion, brass, woodwinds and string instruments. They use hands-on activities to teach children pitch, rhythm and music notation. They will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in and ability for creative expression through music.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor Degree or Higher.
  • Valid School Teaching Certificate with Music or Music Education

JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students utilizing a course of study adopted by the School District and/or site.
  • Utilizes a variety of instructional skills and methods; vary instructional modes to accommodate student needs, interests, learning style, and ability levels; provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students
  • Instructs students in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the School District.
  • Plans, rehearses, and directs students in the performance of musical programs for the school.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Familiarize the students with the basic concepts of music such as notes, tempo, symphony, beats, compositions, chords, scales, rhythm, etc.
  • Acquaint the students with different music genres such as jazz, classical, techno, pop, folk, etc.
  • Maintains school standards of pupil behavior required to provide an orderly and productive environment, in cooperation with the school administration
  • Selects and recommends requisitions for equipment/instruments and instructional supplies; Instructs students in proper care and use of materials and equipment/instruments; organize storage areas and control use of materials and equipment/instruments to prevent loss or abuse
  • Introduce students to a variety of instruments and give them a short brief-up about their cultural importance
  • Perform basic student attendance accounting and maintain and submit upon request, accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
  • Prepare and maintain lesson plans with identified learning objectives
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and district meetings as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EVALUATION: Annual

SALARY: Commensurate with Crestwood Federation of Teachers Contract

EFFECTIVE DATE: 2024-2025 School Year
