Media Engineering is an innovative organization that is focused on providing the best possible video playback experience, art, and metadata to customers around the world, powered by exceptional technology. This strategic work requires streamlining and re-purposing technology across different business and distribution channels – including streaming, linear, and theatrical – so that technology can ebb and flow across the needs of the business. This role will join the Media Processing and Distribution org to manage a team of engineers specializing in caching technology, distributed networking, and operational experience in CDN edge services. We are looking for a manager excited by a fast-paced environment, exposure to new technologies and engagement in exciting Disney initiatives with high visibility. You will guide your team to: Execute within established process frameworks for incident, problem and change management based on ITIL standards Monitor health and performance of video distribution Investigate, document and resolve complex issues Work with development and operations teams to provide analysis, tuning and improvements Responsibilities: Work with individual engineers to map out career growth and goals. Guide an engineering team in its ownership of systems and processes. Create an environment of trust for people to be themselves and able to excel Provide input for stakeholders and decision makers in architecture, roadmap, and product. Communicate architecture, roadmap, and product objectives to engineers and gather feedback for stakeholders. Champion cross-team projects. Coach and mentor other specialists on the team to ensure that all software utilizes Disney and industry best practices. Collaborate efficiently with product management, technical program management, operations, and other engineering teams to capture requirements, drive implementation, and provide transparency. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, and/or equivalent work experience 8 years’ experience in engineering Experience in content distribution networks. An ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Strong discipline to delegate work and focus on solving management problems. Comfortable driving complex and high profile projects without overextending personal health or well-being of your team. Strong communication skills and a desire to share your knowledge with team members and others at Disney. Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience as a manager or technical lead of engineers. Experience with consumer facing services and high-scale systems. Experience deploying and scaling within a cloud infrastructure. Experience directly managing and mentoring a team. Experience working with remote global teams and a flexible schedule to meet in different time zones. DISNEYTECH The hiring range for this position in Santa Monica/Burbank/Glendale/L.A., California and in Bristol, Connecticut is $152,200 to $204,100; the hiring range for this position in Seattle, WA and in New York City, NY is $159,500 to $213,900 per year; and the hiring range for this position in San Francisco, California is $166,800 to $223,600 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
