Sr. User Experience Designer

Piper Companies is seeking a Senior UX designer for a Consulting assignment with opportunity for FTE conversion after 6-months.
Our client is among the nation's largest credit unions and based in McLean, VA. This role is a Hybrid with 3days/week in the office in Mclean, VA. The ideal candidate will have some experience in retail/consumer banking and understand the workflow in that space.
Essential Functions
1. Create digital banking experiences that are effective, efficient, and satisfying to maximize our product relevance
2. Own the creative process from ideation to final deliverable, partnering with UX strategists, UX researchers, other UX designers, UX writers, and UI designers
3. Translate complex problems into "simple" practical design solutions that are grounded in data and insights across all lines of business
4. Visualize the user experience through user flows, customer journeys, information architecture diagrams, conceptual sketches, wireframes, and hi-fidelity designs based on user data, research, and best practices
5. Gather and synthesize design inputs (qual/quant data, primary/secondary research, competitive analysis, business requirements, system capabilities, regulatory requirements, etc.) to determine how we approach a design problem
6. Support researchers in creating evaluative usability tests including research plans, creating low and high-fidelity interactive prototypes, moderating sessions, reporting outcomes with stakeholders, and presenting design improvements
7. Communicate conceptual ideas, detailed designs, and design rationale visually and verbally to stakeholders at all levels of the organization
8. Collaborate closely with product managers to ensure design solutions meet established success criteria and bring the product vision to life
9. Contribute to and leverage a design system to promote delivery speed, brand consistency, designing at scale, creativity, and innovation
10. Draft written content and apply basic content standards
11. Collaborate with engineers and technologists to determine the most efficient way to implement designs
12. Collaborate with project managers to identify delivery milestones, coordinate design reviews, and communicate blockers and status
Education and Experience
Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
• Bachelor's degree in user experience design, graphic design, human factors, or a related field
• 5 years of experience in digital design, preferably with a financial institution or fintech
• A design portfolio or project case study as a PDF or website
• Experience designing native mobile and responsive web applications
• Experience with inclusive design and accessibility per the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) guidelines
• Familiarity with Apple Human Centered Guidelines, Google Material Design, Salesforce Lightning, and related design systems
• Proficiency in a variety of UX tools and collaboration platforms such as Sketch, InVision, Axure, Miro/Mural, etc.
• Familiarity with outcome-driven design, agile software development, and Lean UX
• Experience communicating ideas and telling stories in visual formats
• Solution-oriented approach and positive attitude
• Enthusiasm for establishing a design thinking culture in one of the nation's largest credit unions
• Ability to understand the big picture, take ownership, and tackle problems wherever they arise
• Ability to maturely discuss design and communicate design rationale; comfort giving and receiving feedback in design reviews
Compensation for the Sr. UX Designer includes:
Salary Range: $130,000 - $145,000, $60-70/hr. depending on seniority
