SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Assistant Technical Director (ATD) reports to the Director of Event Services and directly to the Technical Director as a part of the Event Services Department. The position requires excellent customer service skills, a sense of urgency in completing tasks efficiently, and an ability to handle stressful situations in a quick paced environment while in compliance with the University's Service Expectations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Twichell Auditorium Functions: 90% Work alongside the Converse University Technical Director in managing production work for the Twichell Auditorium (1,400 seats) Assist with multi-space maintenance, including maintaining equipment and tools Ordering supplies, continuing renovation improvements, and organization of storage Assist with pre-production contact for rental groups to include logistics, planning, scheduling, possible designing, problem solving, safety Running campus and rental events (load-in, run, strike) as scheduled within the Events Services team Support community partners with rehearsals, stage sets, front of house needs, back of house needs, strike, etc. Flip Twichell stage in and out of the shell as needed between performances and assist with the removal of the pit when necessary Lay and remove Marley flooring as needed Support rehearsals, performances, meetings or presentations for renters and Campus departments within Twichell Maintains and safeguards the technical assets of the Auditorium, including the use of lighting, sound, communication equipment, and maintenance of stage equipment. Train and work with student workers Other duties as assigned OTHER FUNCTIONS: 10% Support rehearsals, performances, meetings, or presentations for other departments, such as, but not limited to, the President's Office, Admissions Office, Institutional Advancement, the Theatre & Dance department's H. B. Abbott (225 seats) and Laird (75 seats) theaters, and other areas of the University as needed. This 12-month position works with Converse Events Services, its calendar of scheduled events and production deadlines. Requires the flexibility of working evenings and/or weekends. ESSENTIAL DUTIES / NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Work closely with the Converse Technical Director (TD) to plan, set up, and execute professionally run events in Twichell Auditorium, ensuring safety and customer service are at the Communicate and coordinate in a timely manner with key Converse faculty, staff, and renters on their specific event front of house needs and expectations. Be present during events in Twichell Auditorium, and some Converse events as appropriate. Meet regularly with the Event Services Staff regarding upcoming events, schedules, needs, and Utilize problem solving skills to identify and rectify operating challenges on the spot. Attend weekly campus Events Meeting to ensure efficient communication and planning across Maintain occupancy compliance in relation to Fire Marshal codes in Twichell Auditorium Other duties as assigned. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Associates degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred in technical theater or a related field Equivalent experience and training in technical theater fields will be considered in lieu of a formal degree. Experience working with professional artists/entertainers/groups from a broad range of disciplines and to provide service to assist them to reach their desired event goals is preferred. Experienced in the areas of audio, video, and lighting technology in conjunction with event Technically oriented, creative, and work well within a team environment Demonstrated knowledge of applications of theatrical equipment including theatrical sound systems, digital video systems, rigging, fly systems, and stage lighting. Customer service in compliance with the University's Service Expectations is expected. Oftentimes the work schedule varies and the employee must be flexible to work within the college's human resources guidelines. Proficiency in Google applications (Google docs, sheets, calendar) Friendly, attentive, and ability to multitask with a small team in close quarters Although normal business hours for Converse are 8 am - 5 pm Monday through Thursday and 8 am - 1 pm on Friday, this position requires extensive night and weekend work, which will create flexed schedules. Weekly hour totals can fall anywhere between 36 hours - 80 hours depending on the event / show demands. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to work nights and weekends. Ability to lift over 50 pounds and stand for extended periods PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experienced in the areas of audio, video, and lighting technology in conjunction with event Technically oriented, creative, and work well within a team environment Demonstrated knowledge of applications of theatrical equipment including theatrical sound systems, digital video systems, fly systems. rigging, and stage lighting. Customer service in compliance with the University's Service Expectations is expected. Oftentimes the work schedule varies and the employee must be flexible to work within the university's human resources guidelines. KNOWLEDGE: Stage lighting Sound and sound equipment Stage Rigging/Flying systems GUIDELINES AND SUPERVISION: Can work independently or as a team. Motivated self-starter. SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: The ATD position is a fast moving, multitasking position that deals with the public, as well as on campus faculty, staff, and students. This person must be customer service oriented, positive, and high energy with a sense of urgency. Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks such as, but not limited to, moving equipment, setting tables, risers, podiums, and ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
