POSITION TITLE:PR & Media Relations Manager

DEPARTMENT: Marketing

REPORTS TO: Chief Marketing Officer

SALARY/FLSA STATUS: Exempt, Full Time

ORGANIZATION MISSION:

The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast and Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay is to provide high-quality, out-of-school Club experiences to ensure our young people, especially those who need us most, are on track to graduate from high school with a plan for their future, demonstrate good character & citizenship, and live a healthy lifestyle.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The PR & Media Relations Manager leads the strategy and development of engagement initiatives that work to bring awareness and support to Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast and Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay. The PR & Media Relations Manager is a dynamic position intended to foster partnerships between companies and organizations invested in and aligned with the Boys & Girls Clubs mission via intentional programs and innovative strategy.

Under the guidance and support of the Chief Marketing Officer, this person plays a vital part in identifying, building, and maintaining community partnerships that support our organization through in-kind, financial, and volunteer support.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Chief Marketing Officer to design and execute comprehensive media strategies to enhance the organization’s visibility and reputation and identify opportunities for media coverage that align with the nonprofit's mission and programs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and influencers in youth-related and nonprofit sectors. Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and interviews. Prepare and distribute press releases, media kits, and other relevant materials.
  • Collaborate with Director of Communications to collect testimonials, success stories, and data to create engaging content.
  • Plan and execute public relations campaigns to promote key initiatives, events, and milestones, ensuring consistent messaging across all digital and print media channels.
  • Support the promotion of fundraising events, awareness campaigns, and community outreach efforts through securing media coverage and providing on-site media support when necessary.
  • Assist Chief Marketing Officer and Director of Communications in the development and implementation of a crisis communication plan to protect the nonprofit’s reputation during challenging situations. Act as spokesperson or train designated spokespeople to handle sensitive media interactions.
  • Partner with community organizations, businesses, and stakeholders to amplify media reach and public awareness. Work with Marketing & Resource Development teams to align PR efforts with organizational goals.
  • Monitor digital trends and recommend strategies to Director of Communications to improve the nonprofit’s positive reputation.
  • Track and analyze the effectiveness of PR campaigns and media coverage. Prepare reports on PR activities, media impressions, and audience engagement for internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure alignment of PR efforts with the organization’s mission, values, and advocacy goals. Stay informed about youth-related issues to position the nonprofit as a thought leader in the field.
  • Collaborate with Chief Marketing Officer on PR budget to effectively maximize the impact of media and outreach activities. Source and manage relationships with PR agencies or freelancers, if necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.A. or advanced degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience crafting press releases, media pitches, and impactful storytelling content.
  • 2-3 years’ experience managing crisis communication and representing an organization as a spokesperson preferred.
  • Excellent public speaking skills.
  • Organized and able to multitask.
  • Willingness to take initiative.
  • Comfortable ability to lead on projects.

TRAVEL:

Travel will be required to multiple Club facilities throughout surrounding counties for training and/or other business purposes.

The noise level in the work environment varies. Flexibility to working schedules may be required due to changing needs. Hybrid schedule available. Some meetings will be in Pinellas County, travel to surrounding counties
