SUMMARY

*Two to four years formal stenographic training.*
** Current Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certificate preferred.**
This is skilled work in the taking and transcriptions of proceedings in a Court of Law and/or other related official segments of judicial procedures. Work requires extreme accuracy in stenographically reporting and transcription of proceedings as the transcripts prepared by the Court Reporter represents the Official Record of the Court. Court Reporters are assigned and/or rotated among the Board of Judges at the discretion of the Chief Court Reporter.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for making a verbatim record of Criminal, Civil, and Family Court proceedings using a stenograph machine;
  • Using computer-aided transcription software prepares and provides transcripts in accordance with Pennsylvania/Montgomery County rules;
  • Maintains Court day logs noting appearances and essential events during proceedings;
  • Maintains exhibit logs;
  • Researching; binding; record-keeping; and communications.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Current Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certificate preferred;
  • Real Time proficiency preferred;
  • Skilled in the use of computer-aided stenographic and transcription technology;
  • Possess and provides all necessary personal equipment and software;
  • Produce completed transcription timely;
  • Adaptability to courtroom procedures;
  • Communication (verbal and written);
  • Ability to take verbatim transcription at prescribed rates of speed;
  • Two-four years formal stenographic training;
  • Apprenticeship;
  • Proper grammatical usage, syntax and sentence structure of the English language; legal, medical, scientific and technical vocabulary;
  • Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment.
