Position Description
The School of Art and Designat Texas State University invites applications for a full-time
tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Studio Art in Metals. The successful candidate will be a metal artist with an emerging or established research and exhibition record; will oversee the metals facilities; will lead the metals area; and will be an active, engaged member of the School, College and University communities.
The School of Art and Design has roughly 1000 students majoring in Art, Art Education, Art History, Communication Design, Photography and Studio Art. Our state-of-the-art facilities spread across two buildings with 3D facilities including metal and wood shops, ceramics facility, foundry, forming and casting, 3D printing, CNC routing, laser cutting, and other technologies. Other notable labs and classrooms include Photography; Expanded Media (time-based art); multiple dedicated computer labs; Printmaking; RISO lab; and Painting and Drawing studios.
Texas State is classified as a Carnegie R2 High Research institution and anticipates achieving R1 status in 2027. Sitting at the spring-fed headwaters of the San Marcos River, the university is home to the Texas State University Galleries, the Performing Arts Center, Live Oak Studios, The Wittliff Collection, The Center for the Study of the Southwest, and The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment. - Teach introductory through advanced courses in the School of Art and Design
- Serve as area head of the metals studio, which includes scheduling courses, overseeing metals curriculum, supervising the metals facility, managing staff, equipment, supplies and tools
- Pursue personal research/creative activity and build a substantive record of national and international peer/professional recognition
- Lead curriculum development in metals and participate in broad studio curricular development
- Engage in service to the school, college, university, civic community, and profession

Required Qualifications
- MFA degree in Metals, Studio Art, or a closely related discipline
- Emergent or established record of professional accomplishment in research and creative activity with evidence of a trajectory toward prominence in the field
- Demonstrated ability to effectively integrate new technologies into curriculum and teaching
- 1-year successful teaching experience at the college level
Preferred Qualifications
- Successful procurement of grants or other research funding
- Scholarly/creative practice integrating metals with emergent or digital technologies
- Experience maintaining a Metals facility
