Job Description |

Frontier Audio Labs is looking for an extremely passionate and hardworking audio algorithm and DSP engineering intern with experience developing audio algorithms. The selected individual will contribute to key parts of the R&D and product development process and their work will have a huge impact on the safety, comfort, and productivity of millions of end-users powering and protecting the world. “Crazy ideas”, being scrappy, and having fun are tenants of the culture as well as focus and hard work, fundamental requirements to reach our goals. Frontier Audio is an ideal company for those looking to be a cornerstone or foundational member of a quickly growing team that iterates rapidly. While Frontier Audio as a startup may not be able to offer top-bucket cash compensation starting off, this position will include a significant (multiple percent) equity stake.


Responsibilities |

  • Play critical role driving audio algorithm/DSP development to deliver unprecedented experiences around speech, hearing, and noise
  • Work on pioneering algorithms for spatial awareness, noise cancellation, and speech clarity leveraging microphones, speakers, other sensors, and cutting edge audio SOCs
  • Complete acoustic testing and subjective listening as part of R&D
  • Rapidly prototype and deliver full stack demos
  • Collaborating with mechanical, DSP, and electrical/hardware engineers


Qualifications |

Required

  • Dedication to creating products stretching the boundaries of possible
  • 2+ years of experience working closely with audio algorithms and digital signal processing (school or personal projects counts)
  • Proficient working experience around audio ASICs, transducers, microphones, amplifiers, and DSP
  • Knowledge on the cutting edge of hearables/wearables audio and algorithms around noise control, beamforming, etc. 
  • 3+ years of experience working with hands around electronics with proficiency in soldering, 3D printing,
  • Self-driven engineer who can independently prioritize and “get things done”
  • Must have ability to be qualified to work in the U.S. in less than 3 months and have no restrictions for international travel
  • Ability to commute to Frontier Audio Labs’ Chicago office on a daily basis


Preferred

  • Experience implementing adaptive active noise cancellation, transparency, or denoising algorithms
  • Previous internship developing algorithms for wearables/hearables (headphones, earbuds, hearing aids, etc.)
  • 1+ years of experience with acoustic test and measurement and systems such as like Audio Precision, Clio, Klippel, or SoundCheck/Listen.
  • Strong critical listening experience 
  • Members of our engineering team have degrees in Acoustics or a similar field (mechanical or electrical engineering, physics, etc.), but if you have taken a different route to gain the required experience, that is acceptable
