Who We Are Looking For:

Populous is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Materials Design Librarian to join our dynamic team in Kansas City. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for quality and creativity, demonstrate self-motivation and initiative, and thrive in a collaborative and engaging work environment. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual eager to grow and contribute within a team committed to innovation and excellence.

Our preferred candidate will have prior experience in the AEC industry, and an interest in working in a dynamic global design environment with a diverse range of public assembly building types, including sports venues, convention centers, and transportation facilities.

What Your Day Could Consist Of:

Materials Library Management
  • Maintain and organize the materials library in Kansas City, including adding new products from interior and architectural presentations.
  • Manage "stock and go-to items" for interiors and architects, ensuring availability for active projects.
  • Assist architects and designers in locating products and samples.
  • Support staff with project trays, storage needs, and inventory for completed and inactive projects.
  • Maintain specialty sampling tools such as Pantone Chip books and metal or hardware references.


Advisory and Support
  • Advise architects and designers on material solutions, product recommendations, and manufacturer connections.
  • Provide alternative product recommendations when specified items do not meet project deadlines.
  • Assist in bridging the gap between renderings and reality by recommending manufacturers.


Digital Resource Management
  • Maintain and update the Materials Library SharePoint Site, uploading new reference documents and updating vendor contacts.
  • Add sustainability information to the manufacturer listing for internal use.


Training and Education
  • Provide materials library training for all new interiors staff, including digital resource reviews and vendor connection opportunities.
  • Engage and educate interns and new hires with tailored training sessions.
  • Coordinate with the Learning Team to plan accredited Interior learning annually to support licensing for Interior Design staff.


Community Engagement
  • Conduct tours for specialty groups, such as students and clients, showcasing the library and its resources.


Essential Qualifications:
  • Professional Degree in Interior Design or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years in an architecture or interior design firm.
  • Experience with material and furniture specifications is preferred.
  • Strong ability to manage both physical libraries and digital resources.
  • Exceptional ability to build and maintain vendor relationships.
  • Proactive in recommending materials and solutions to design challenges.
  • Experience or enthusiasm for design, architecture, and interior materials.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SharePoint and other organizational tools is preferred.


Additional details:
  • Travel will be required.
