Your Opportunity

Stantec’s New York City Transportation group has an opening for a Civil Designer with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Transportation design. This position also involves being part of the team that leads the digital transformation of BC 1923 through information modeling, design automation, computational design strategies, and various BIM technologies focused on both improving existing workflows and developing entirely new ones.

This position is for a person with an education or background in Civil Engineering with a focus on BIM and VDC technologies. The ideal candidate will have a proven record as a team collaborator. As a member of the NYC Transportation group, you will support and participate in the digital transformation of the BC 1923. These duties include BIM/VDC management, project coordination, Digital Project Execution Plan Development (BEP/BXP), and implementation of emerging design workflows.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Design of Infrastructure Projects.

  • Develop design plans and calculations, technical specifications, and construction cost estimates.

  • Assist in preparing engineering reports and technical studies.

  • Collaborate with team members, other disciplines and offices, and specialty subconsultants.

  • Interact with and present project designs to clients, agencies, and the public.

  • Work alongside experienced practitioners to expand your knowledge.

  • Provide guidance to influence and mentor team members.

  • Assist on initiatives and efforts, as part of a collaborative team, with your BIM and CAD design expertise.

  • Assist with the development of documentation, standards, best practices, and workflows for design/delivery hardware/software in use across the BC.

  • Serve as BIM/VDC/CAD(or equivalent project specific nomenclature) Manager on projects.

  • Provide direction and assistance to project teams with project scope, approach, setup, and delivery including the develop and implementation of Digital Project Execution Plans (BIM Execution Plans), model matrices, and other supporting digital scope documentation for each project.

  • Represent BC 1923 as a subject matter expert for BIM-related subject matter for both internal and client-facing engagements.

  • Influence, implement, and support interdisciplinary standards and process improvements related to digital project design and delivery

  • Coordinate with the Infrastructure Digital Practice team to ensure the dissemination and exchange of knowledge

  • Reviews projects to ensure quality and cohesion in accordance with firm or client standards.

  • Creates and leads regular end user support and training.

  • Work with Consultant and Subconsultants to assure that they have implemented the most current BIM/CAD standards.

  • Maintain software template files to assure standards.

  • Participation during the construction phase in order to maintain adherence to the design intent, quality standards, and contract documents including reviewing shop drawings and submittals, responding to requests for information, preparing observation reports, and completing other tasks associated with the construction phase.

  • Evaluate and recommend BIM related technologies that can help improve current workflows

  • Strong understanding of Transportation's systems design, layout, and coordination is preferred but not required

  • Strong understanding of current modeling and drafting platforms (Bentley and/or Autodesk).

  • Strong understanding of design coordination/clash detection process and technology.

  • Successfully manage multiple priorities across multiple projects.

  • Experience with developing and/or maintaining a Digital Project Execution Plan (BEP/BXP)

  • Advanced knowledge of latest Autodesk and/or Bentley products including: AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks Manage, Autodesk Construction Cloud / BIM 360, Microstation, OpenRoads Designer, Projectwise, Synchro.

  • Proficiency in the following platforms is not required but would be considered an asset: InfraWorks, Dynamo, GenerativeComponents, Python, C#, Inventor, 3ds Max, V-Ray, Unreal Engine, ArcGIS Pro, REST API, Autodesk Forge APIs, OpenBridge Designer

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

  • EIT required and the ability to get a NY PE.

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in infrastructure design.

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management with a focus on BIM/VDC, or minimum 2 years of experience in the AEC industry at the capacity of BIM/VDC manager or coordinator.

Position will primarily work in an office or virtual setting; may require some field work.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • $94,600 - $137,200 Min/Max Pay Range(s) for postings located in NYC/NY

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
