Based in vibrant Indianapolis, IN, the Ruth Lilly Medical Library seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and talented Assistant Director for Research and Data Education. This position oversees our research team (Scholarly Communications Librarian, Data Services Librarian, and Research Metrics Librarian) which supports and tracks research efforts across IUSM (Indiana University School of Medicine) such as assisting with grant proposals, electronic lab notebooks, scholarly communication, artificial intelligence initiatives, and data management plan requirements. This position also coordinates with Research Affairs to support research initiatives within IUSM.

This is a tenure-track faculty position that will report to the Associate Director of Public Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervisory Responsibilities

* Supervises three full-time librarians

* Meets with direct reports

* Performs annual evaluations

* Writes appropriate sections of the annual departmental review

* Leads the Research Team to develop and implement strategic goals, policies, services, and infrastructure to support research, data, and translational sciences initiatives within the Ruth Lilly Medical Library.

Research Team Responsibilities

* Serves as the lead from the library on rigor and reproducibility initiatives for the school, such as, ORCID, electronic lab notebooks, and data management plans.

* Maintains awareness of the full research life cycle to inform library services to Research Affairs.

* Identifies and cultivates opportunities for partnerships with intramural and extramural academic departments, centers and institutes and other stakeholders to enhance library services and resources. Works collaboratively with stakeholders to develop and revise programs, ensuring they effectively respond to evolving information needs and align with strategic partnership opportunities.

* Coordinates ongoing training and support for the research enterprise such as metrics, funding policies/mandates, leveraging generative AI, and other research/data related initiatives.

* Coordinates ongoing training and support for library staff on research issues, trends, and/or competencies.

Liaison Librarian Responsibilities

* Cultivates partnerships and collaborates with university faculty on projects including teaching, grants, manuscripts, paper, or poster presentations.

* Participates in a team approach to providing prompt and effective reference, consultation, and instructional services to students, faculty, and staff.

* Works with a regional medical campus to meet the medical education, clinical, and research information resource needs.

* Functions as a liaison to assigned School of Medicine research and clinical departments, centers, or other units, such as Biostatistics & Health Data Science, Informatics, Regenstrief Institute, Research Affairs.

* Participates in the Library's Undergraduate and Graduate Medical Education programs and tailored educational sessions.

* Provides library research consultations, reference, and expert searching (including systematic review and other evidence syntheses searching) services.

* Participates in instructional services, including face-to-face and online instruction.

* Advocates and promotes the value of library instruction services within the institution.

* Develops a full network of contacts within assigned liaison areas (departments/units, institutes, regional IUSM campuses, and centers) and anticipates and meets their information needs.

Promotion and Tenure activities

* Attend workshops and meetings related to promotion and tenure

* Professional service

* Research, creativity, and professional development (includes activities such as research projects, publications, presentations, grants, and continuing education).

* Demonstrates a commitment to outstanding public service, initiative, creativity, and enthusiasm for teaching, learning, and working collaboratively.

* Serves on Indiana University School of Medicine committees.

* Contributes to the overall development and innovation of the library and the profession by participating in library, campus, university, state, regional or national meetings, committees, workgroups and task forces or by representing the library on consortia.

* Maintains current knowledge of the trends and issues in translational science and biomedical research, data services, higher education, scholarly communication, research practice, and health care.

* Designs and implements a plan for continuing education, continuing professional development and actively contributes to the development of health sciences librarianship through scholarly and service activities.

* Participates in other projects and initiatives as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

Required:

* ALA-accredited master's degree or advanced degree in relevant field.

* At least two years of professional experience in a health or sciences library or equivalent experience.

* Ability to drive to the regional medical campus and other campuses as needed

* Ability to work in a collegial, collaborative work environment and maintain positive professional working relationships with faculty members, supervisor, and peers.

* Demonstrated record of designing projects and concluding them in a timely fashion.

* Record of scholarship, teaching, and/or active membership in a professional organization.

* Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

* Strong customer service skills and an enthusiastic public services orientation.

Additional Qualifications

Preferred:

* Experience with supervising staff and/or students in a library setting

* Evidence of increasing leadership and supervisory responsibilities

* Ability to maintain knowledge on a broad range of research topics, such as: data management practices, data policies, bibliometrics, scholarly communication, and similar topics.

* Additional degree in health-related or sciences discipline.

* Experience working directly with biomedical researchers and/or within a research laboratory.

* Experience with conducting expert searching and/or systematic reviews or other evidence syntheses.

* Experience teaching critical appraisal/evidence-based practice
