SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Library seeks a forward-thinking and user-focused candidate for the position of Librarian for STEM, serving as liaison for the departments of biology, chemistry & biochemistry, and mathematics; the School for Marine Science & Technology; and may include parts of the College of Engineering. As a member of the Research and Information Literacy Services team, the Librarian for STEM provides reference and instructional services to the university community. All librarians have leadership responsibilities and contribute to the goals and strategic direction of the library and university through active participation on committees, task forces, and working groups.

- Serves as the liaison and primary point of contact for students and faculty of the departments of biology, chemistry & biochemistry, and mathematics; the School for Marine Science & Technology; and parts of the College of Engineering. Additional areas may be assigned as appropriate
- Establishes relationships with faculty and students in liaison areas through active engagement, outreach, research support, and advocacy for departmental needs
- Initiates and conducts course-integrated information literacy instruction for undergraduate and graduate students in liaison areas
- Provides user-centered general and in-depth subject reference services including virtual reference and in-person consultation
- Participates in library instruction endeavors
- Develops and maintains instructional materials in various formats, such as LibGuides, video tutorials, and content for the university's learning management system
- Builds, evaluates, and promotes collections that meet the university's research and curricular needs
- Demonstrates sustained commitment to professional development, professional activities, and productive service in professional associations
- Contributes to the Claire T. Carney Library's scholarly communication services through activities such as assisting faculty with data management and facilitating faculty involvement with the institutional repository
- Maintains awareness of current trends and innovations in librarianship
- Participates in professional service at the departmental, library, and university level
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications:
- Education: Master's degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited degree program or equivalent. Degree must be completed by start date.
- Experience: Strong subject background in the sciences, engineering, or a related field as demonstrated by undergraduate or graduate degree, professional experience, or combination of education and experience; or experience as an academic or special librarian serving students, faculty, or researchers in one or more of the assigned liaison areas.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in a discipline related to liaison areas
- One or more years professional experience in academic librarianship serving students or faculty in one or more of the assigned liaison areas
- Experience in preparing and presenting information literacy sessions in a dynamic, engaging, and organized manner
- Experience providing library reference and/or research consultation services
- Demonstrated commitment to high quality, student-centered library services and to student success
- In-depth understanding of the current research, information sources, and scholarly trends in one or more of the assigned liaison areas
- Experience developing LibGuides, video tutorials, or other instructional materials
- Experience in contributing to the field of librarianship through publication, presentation, research, or other professional activities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Evidence of a strong service orientation coupled with an ability to interact positively and productively in a collegial environment
- Experience providing research assistance, customer support, or similar front-line services, preferably in a library or academic environment
- Knowledge of effective reference techniques
- Knowledge of information literacy principles and practices
- Aptitude for using databases and other research resources
- Demonstrated initiative and proven ability to engage in continuous learning and adapt to changes in the profession
- Excellent communication skills, including speaking, writing, and listening
- Ability to engage effectively with a wide range of users
- Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and a desire to work in a collaborative, respectful environment
- Knowledge of planning and delivering instruction sessions in various formats
