Who we are: The Music department is nationally accredited by NASM, and is part of the College of Arts and Sciences (ca. 1400 students), a liberal arts undergraduate college where faculty and staff are committed to an intimate, personalized education. The University also includes a College of Health Professions (including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, Pharmacy, Dental Science, and Professional Psychology), a College of Optometry, a College of Education, and a College of Business.
The Department of Music at Pacific serves the educational needs of approximately 50 music majors and minors, and many more non-music majors from other disciplines. The department offers a well-balanced combination of Bachelor of Arts in Music with emphasis in performance/general music/music education degrees and two professional degrees, Bachelor of Music Therapy and Bachelor of Music Education with Teaching License. Position Description
Pacific University's Department of Music invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant (or Associate) Professor of Music Therapy and Director of Music Therapy. We seek a tenure-track Director of Music Therapy to support and grow our program to meet the educational needs of the 21st century music therapy student.
Responsibilities:
* Teach undergraduate courses in music therapy
* Provide academic supervision for senior capstone projects
* Uphold the AMTA Standards for Education and Clinical Training and the AMTA Code of Ethics
* Receive, respond to, and distribute communication from AMTA regarding program status to appropriate faculty and administration
* Monitor and communicate student eligibility for internships
* Monitor and communicate student eligibility for the CBMT exam
* Comply with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines, etc. including requirements for board certification and licensure as appropriate.
Scholarship expectations:
We seek a collegial scholar-teacher whose research interests supplement or complement existing expertise in the department. We expect our new colleague to establish an active research program with undergraduates that leads to peer-review. Start-up funds are available. We also encourage course-based undergraduate research experiences. Pacific provides resources for developing skills in grant writing, mentoring students in research, or other areas to support the establishment of a sustainable research program.
Service expectations:
Service at Pacific occurs at many different levels (department, school, college, and university). We expect service at the college or university level prior to tenure, and pre-tenure faculty will be eligible for appointment or election to committees starting in their second year. Music faculty also provide academic advising to 10-20 students each semester, starting in the second year. Active recruiting of students into all of the music programs and ensembles is expected. Service to the profession through attendance and presentations at conferences and leadership positions on state, regional or national music therapy associations is also valued in faculty reviews.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
* Master's degree in Music Therapy or related area, with a minimum of 12 semester hours or the equivalent of graduate music therapy credits beyond the equivalency requirement
* MT-BC with at least 3 years of full-time music therapy clinical experience, or its part-time equivalent
* Demonstrated mastery of all professional competencies in music therapy
* Effective interpersonal communication, organization, and collaboration skills
* Successful record of inclusive teaching excellence
Desired Qualifications
* PhD in Music Therapy or closely related field
* Teaching and clinical supervision experience
* Specialization in music science and undergraduate research supervision
* Specialization or advanced training in at least one area of clinical practice
* Active involvement in scholarly work including conference presentations and/or research

Pacific University has been the most distinctive aspect of the town throughout its history, and Old College Hall on campus is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
