Job Description
Under the supervision of the Vistant Sr. Director, the Jr. Writer will support the CECOM C51SR at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG).
The Jr. Writer shall create and curate the content necessary for APG and CECOM publications of their respective websites, as outlined by the Public Affairs Office (PAO) and in this PWS. The CECOM Commander or the PAO will provide oversight and final approval authority for all content created IAW this PWS. The Jr. Writer shall not publish any content without obtaining final approval authority.
The responsibilities of this position include:
- Create and curate the editorial content necessary for the APG and CECOM Army.mil websites, the installation quarterly magazine, and the CECOM Dash. This content includes, but is not limited to news and feature stories, personnel profiles and Q&As. The contractor will ensure publications include the following disclaimer: The appearance of advertising does not imply endorsement by the U.S. Army or the Department of Defense.
- Take or curate the photographs and associated captions necessary to accompany the editorial content; supply access to a stock photography service. When needed, create graphics and illustrations to accompany editorial content.
- Create and curate the editorial content necessary for the APG and CECOM This content includes, but is not limited to, news stories, features, profiles, photographs, videos, and other multimedia products
- Capture or curate the photographs, video footage, and audio footage necessary to accompany the editorial content of the APG and CECOM websites. Supply access to a stock photography service.
- Write the social media posts necessary to promote editorial content on Aberdeen Proving Ground and U.S. Army Communications-Electrons Command social media The contractor shall create content specifically for APG and CECOM social media pages.
- Create the design and layout necessary for the APG and CECOM publications using Adobe software products. Follow local design standards and branding guidelines as outlined by the APG PAO.
- Meet all deadlines outlined by APG
Education: Bachelor's degree (Mass Communications, Journalism or related field preferred (2 additional years of work experience in journalism can be substituted for a degree)
Clearance: N/A
Qualifications: 8 years of applicable experience in researching, writing, and reporting news stories for newspaper, website, or social media reporting venues.
Special Knowledge: Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of people, from children to senior military leaders. Able to write and report accurately and meet weekly deadlines. Familiar with using Microsoft Office Suite, newspaper production software, taking and editing photos with a digital camera, and producing media content in Associated Press (AP) Stylebook standards.
