Are you passionate about providing library services to communities? We're seeking a creative, energetic, and enthusiastic individual to join our team at the Fox Branch Library as a full-time Children's Librarian. The Children's Librarian plans and executes programs, manages collections, and creates an exciting neighborhood destination for kids and families.
POSITION TITLE: Children's Librarian
SCHEDULE: Full-time (35 hrs/wk). Monday 10-6, Tuesday 9-5, Wednesday 12-8, Thursday 9-5. Alternating Fridays and Saturdays 9-5 p.m.
SALARY: $59,866-$74,663
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform professional library work including the development and execution of children's library programs, materials selection, and other services at the Fox Branch Library. Supports patrons at the Branch's single service desk.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Under the supervision of the Fox Branch Manager, the employee plans and arranges work within established parameters.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct, assist, check, and review the work of assigned circulation staff, pages, volunteers, and other related staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide reference and reader's advisory service to children, their parents and teachers, and other adults working with children at the Fox Branch Library.
Plans and oversees programs for children.
Assist Fox Branch Librarian in planning, developing, and evaluating library services; interprets and enforces policies and regulations for staff and patrons: trains non-professional staff; and performs community outreach.
Attends monthly meetings of the Children's Services team at Robbins Library and participates in related library-wide initiatives.
Serves as the person-in-charge at the Branch when the Branch Librarian is not on-site, managing daily tasks, including technical assistance and troubleshooting.
Purchasing library materials within budget parameters for children based on knowledge of community needs, review of professional journals and children's literature, and the library's collection development policy, Update collections, and see that materials that are no longer needed or used are removed.
Build and maintain children's collections that reflect a variety of diversified cultural and educational interests with an emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion.

Participate in Children's Department activities, which may include designing flyers, scheduling social media posts, and updating the library's website.
Respond to library users' requests, suggestions, and complaints in a timely manner. Refer issues to Fox Branch Manager as needed.
Maintain records of activities and prepare monthly reports for the supervisor.
Keep abreast of developments in children's programming literature, and servcies; attend meetings of the Children's Services Department and professional organizations.,
This position includes a scheduled day at Robbins Library.
Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
MLS Degree from an ALA-accredited and recognized school with specific course work or concentration in children's programming and literature, one year of professional library experience working with children.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILL
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff and the public and present a positive attitude. Ability to interact with people of all ages with tact and good humor. Ability to coordinate workflow and adapt to a variety of tasks and situations.
Planning, and organizational skills. Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills. Excellent oral and written communication and computer skills.
Ability to carry out assignments independently and work collaboratively with a team.
