Job Description

Multiple fixed-term/temporary opportunities are available for Hair & Makeup Artists to support productions at NJ PBS. The Hair & Makeup Artist is responsible for preparing on-air talent, news anchors, reporters, and contributors to appear on television, by creating camera ready looks that align with the broadcast's visual standards and ensure presenters look their best under various lighting conditions. This position requires collaborating closely with producers and directors to maintain consistent appearance, adjusting styles as needed for different series, segments, or breaking news events.

Please note this these are fixed-term temporary openings to provide on-call support.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform airbrush and manual application of makeup to enhance the features of talent and guests;
  • Create and style hair for various textures and lengths using specialized techniques, including air-forming and hot tools, while selecting the appropriate products and tools to achieve desired looks;
  • Manage time effectively to ensure all talent is ready and camera-ready before going live;
  • Ensure NJ State Board of Cosmetology salon standards are followed regarding licensing, cleanliness, and sanitation;
  • Other relevant duties, as assigned.


Qualified candidates will possess excellent interpersonal skills, the ability communicate effectively at all levels, and the ability to work under pressure, especially during live broadcasts or unexpected schedule changes. Additional qualifications include:
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in hair & makeup styling for print, web, and retail and/or TV production shoots for commercials, promotional announcements, and special event projects;
  • Knowledgeable and current on all industry and market trends, product knowledge, and styling techniques.


This position requires in-person work on location throughout NJ and/or in the studios in Newark.

Salary ranges are based on benchmarked nonprofit and industry related data provided by an outside consulting firm and are commensurate with skills and experience. The compensation range for this position is $43.75 - $50.00 per hour. Internal equity considerations will be reviewed before making a final offer.
