PART TIME LIBRARIAN - CHILDREN & TEEN SERVICES
Regular Part-Time Employment Opportunity
The City of Sunnyvale is seeking to fill the position of part-time Librarian in Children and Teen Services with an energetic and highly motivated individual who possesses excellent customer service, technical and interpersonal skills.
The ideal candidate will have experience working closely with teens in a fast-paced full-service library environment. Key responsibilities include presenting storytimes, staffing the information desk, supervising volunteers, creating new and innovative programs for middle and high school students, using state-of-the-art technology to develop library content, and selecting interesting and relevant titles for the collection. Special projects may include working on plans for a new branch library and community center in north Sunnyvale and expanding the library's community engagement and outreach activities.
The Children and Teen Services Librarian works under the direction of the Supervising Librarian and other management staff in a team-oriented and forward-thinking environment.
For the Librarian Classification, the City of Sunnyvale:
Provides comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits;
Contributes 4% of the 7% employee contribution to CalPERS for classic members, and provides retiree medical benefits.
Under general supervision, performs a full range of professional library duties in support of assigned functions; and performs other duties as required.

This classification provides professional library services. It is distinguished from the next higher classification of Supervising Librarian, which is responsible for planning, supervising and coordinating public library services for a program area. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading written reports and work-related documents. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper and documents weighing up to 25 pounds is also required. SELECTION PROCESS

Top candidates on the eligibility list will be invited to participate in an in-person selection interview with the department tentatively scheduled the week of February 10, 2025. Any candidate that is selected by the hiring department will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment process, which may consist of a background history check, as well as a medical exam(s) administered by a City selected physician(s) before hire. Prior to starting work, all newly-hired employees will be fingerprinted to check conviction history. A conviction history will not necessarily disqualify an applicant from appointment; however, failure to disclose conviction history will result in refusal of employment or termination. - May maintain and develop the library's intranet and internet services, including the library website, mobile site, social networks, library catalog and other online resources.
If assigned to Technical Services:
- Catalogues books and non-book materials using Machine Readable Cataloging (MARC) formatting in accordance with Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR), latest edition.
- Maintains a current library catalog.
If assigned to Technology Services:
- Troubleshoot Library hardware and software including technology support for library programming (virtual programming and audio/video support).
- Maintains and supports loanable devices and equipment used both in the library and circulated for public use.
- Maintains and supports the Library webpage, Library catalog, online databases, and other technology resources.
- Maintains and supports the Library's Integrated Library System including preparing data for uploads, troubleshooting issues, permission and settings audits/controls, and assisting staff
- Promotes and trains library staff and the public on new technologies.
- Assists with standard operating procedures, workflows, and a sustainable approach to technology use in library services.
- Identifies ways of using technology to serve customers inside and outside library facilities, makes recommendations to improve library service delivery.
- Prepares and maintains statistical reports and analysis of system usage including library catalog, website, and third-party products from library vendors.
- Communicates regularly with City IT and library vendors to submit technology support requests and understand technology product features.
- Assists with technology implementations to ensure successful deployment and adoption of new technologies.
