Summary

The Specialized Music Therapy and Instructional Lead for Diverse Learners is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and supervision of music therapy programs tailored for students with special needs. This role ensures that therapeutic and educational goals are aligned, fostering an inclusive learning environment. The Lead collaborates with educators, therapists, and families to create customized interventions that address the cognitive, emotional, and developmental needs of diverse learners through music-based strategies. Additionally, the position involves training and supporting staff in best practices for integrating music therapy into educational settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of the WIOA programs, including curriculum development, scheduling, and student recruitment and selection, and employment opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with administrators, teachers, staff, and students.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of student support services, including academic tutoring, college and career counseling, and social and emotional support services, wrap around services, registration and onboarding.
  • Collaborate with community partners to provide additional resources and opportunities for program participants which include childcare, transportation, meals, legal support, and social services support.
  • Conduct individualized assessments of students’ cognitive, emotional, and developmental needs to inform therapy plans.
  • Monitor and document student progress, adjusting therapeutic interventions as necessary to optimize outcomes.

· Train and mentor staff, including teachers and therapy assistants, on best practices for incorporating music therapy into educational settings.

· Facilitate professional development workshops on therapeutic strategies and music-based learning techniques.

· Work closely with families, educators, and healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to each student’s development.

· Attend IEP meetings and provide expert input on music therapy’s role in student progress and goal-setting.

· Ensure that all music therapy programs comply with state and federal regulations regarding special education and therapy services.

· Prepare reports on student progress and program outcomes for administrative and compliance purposes.

· Stay current with the latest research in music therapy and special education, incorporating new techniques and evidence-based practices into the program.

· Experiment with innovative music technologies and instruments to enhance student learning and therapeutic experiences.


Qualifications:

· Master’s degree in Music Therapy, Special Education, or a related field.

· Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) required.

· State certification in special education or teaching (preferred).

· Additional certifications in behavioral therapy or related areas (preferred).

· Minimum 3-5 years of experience working as a music therapist with special needs populations, particularly in educational or therapeutic settings.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with educators, families, and healthcare professionals.

· Ability to design, implement, and evaluate music therapy interventions to support cognitive, emotional, and developmental growth.

· Knowledge of innovative music technologies and their application in therapy.

· Proven experience in program development, student assessment, and creating individualized therapeutic interventions.· Previous experience in an instructional or leadership role, supervising staff or managing therapy programs (preferred).· Passionate about using music therapy to enhance the lives of students with diverse learning needs.

· Creative problem-solver with a patient and empathetic approach to working with students of varying abilities.


Working Condition:

· Work is primarily performed in a school or educational setting, with occasional sessions in therapy rooms or sensory spaces specifically designed for special needs students.

· Regular use of musical instruments, therapy tools, and adaptive equipment.

· May involve standing, sitting, bending, and moving during therapy sessions to engage students in music-based activities.· Occasional lifting of musical equipment or materials, up to 25 pounds.

· Frequent interaction with students who have emotional, cognitive, or behavioral challenges, requiring patience, empathy, and strong emotional resilience.

· High degree of collaboration with educators, therapists, and families, requiring clear and compassionate communication.
