Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and hyper-organized creative development and content acquisition expert, fully ingrained in the world of international vertical dramas, who has a solid track record of content licensing and finding episodic IPs that perform in non-US markets.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of tropes, trends, and subject matter that consistently perform in the vertical drama space, as well as deep connections to non-US licensing partners and episodic film publishers.
This role requires negotiation expertise, market insight, and the ability to discover, evaluate, and acquire exceptional IPs for the SaltyTV platform.
Please note, this is not an entry-level position and requires experience in international drama licensing, with a list of IPs signed. Accompanying performance metrics indicating how these IPs performed once acquired and streamed is a plus.
Preference will be given to candidates who have worked in similar roles for film organizations bridging the Western and non-Western markets, including FlexTV, ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax, GalateaTV, Playlet, and DreameShort.
Candidates will also need to be bilingual in Chinese/English, in order to effectively communicate with non-US partners, translate global contracts, and productively evaluate non-English language IPs.
This position will report directly to Interactive Films’ Content Director and will be a contract-to-hire fully remote US-based role with the ability to overlap at least [2] working hours with the Pacific Time Zone (Los Angeles).
Responsibilities:
- Discover, evaluate, and acquire top-performing and high-potential IPs to broadcast on the SaltyTV platform.
- Routinely review IP catalogs from non-US licensing partners, episodic film publishers, and third-party studios in order to license multiple ready-to-stream IPs on a weekly basis.
- Create contracts, negotiate terms, and sign agreements that will continue to build out SaltyTV’s content library quickly with highly engaging dramas aimed at delighting and retaining global audiences.
- Utilize performance metrics and streaming data to continually refine acquisition scope and overall strategy, leveraging statistics to back decisions and recommendations.
- Proactively seek out and partner with new and expanding domestic and international partners in order to consistently optimize our slate with both well-known and up-and-coming IPs, filmmakers, and cast.
- Work in partnership with the Content Director, Production Coordinator, and Snail’s Legal and Finance Teams in order to run point on finalizing complex licensing contracts and full compliance with global copyright laws.
- Act as project manager over our international slate, providing detailed weekly reports to the Content Director on IPs being pursued, IPs newly signed, IPs under contract, and acquired IP performance.
- Collaborate with the App Development Team and US Operations Team to ensure the smooth transition of acquired IPs onto the SaltyTV platform, being the connecting thread between Salty and licensing partners for all needed assets and troubleshooting.
- Implement organizational systems to ensure consistency and quality are met across international shows, talent, and partners.
- Handle all international slate logistics around payments, invoices, contracts, and how these impact bottom line budget. Present necessary documentation to Contract Director for sign-off.
Requirements:
- 3+ years in film and television licensing and acquisition, preferably within the vertical drama market.
- Bilingual in Chinese/English, with comfortability translating both verbally and editorially.
- Proven track record of successfully negotiating licensing agreements with a list of IPs signed.
- Must have thorough understanding and appreciation for short-form romantic dramas, episodic storytelling, and made-for-mobile digital content. Proven expertise working within web series, vertical series, and mobisode production and licensing is a plus.
- Exceptional project manager: highly organized, detail-oriented, and communicative, with a track record of successful leadership and high-quality end results.
- Proactive and solutions-oriented with the ability to act quickly, back recommendations with data, and present innovative alternatives if issues arise.
- Demonstrated expertise in logistics, negotiation, contract creation, budgeting, scheduling, and holding others accountable to timelines and deliverables.
- A deep network of connections across non-US licensing partners and episodic film publishers.
