CHIEF PHOTOGRAPHER
WINK News is looking immediately for a creative, energetic fulltime Chief Photographer. The successful candidate will supervise the day-to-day field operations of our market while collaborating with management. The leader will have to train and develop young photographers by providing and teaching the most basic skills. The right candidate must have a keen technical prowess with the ability to motivate and continually evaluate a team of individuals by maintaining a positive, inclusive and accountable working environment. Other qualities and responsibilities will include the ability to promote change in a continuously evolving news organization, research industry trends, implement and support cutting edge technologies as they develop.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coach photojournalists regularly and perform reviews for the team.
- Understand, embrace and enforce that we are a digital-first newsroom.
- Responsible for scheduling Photographers.
- Work with a MMJ/Reporter or alone to shoot and edit news stories as assigned.
- Maintain and inventory field equipment and vehicles.
- Operate mobile transmission vehicle for production.
- Assist in training new hires on news shooting techniques, editing and workflows.
- Support special productions, including planning and execution.
- Available 24/7 as first level support for field related technical issues.
- Promote and ensure safe news gathering practices are performed by Photographers and MMJs/Reporters.
- College degree preferred.
- 3-5 years' experience in news production or news photography required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and previous management experience required
- Must possess a working knowledge of video and audio production principles.
- Must possess knowledge of various transmissions (satellite and cellular bonding technology) in relation to use for news production.
- Must be able to troubleshoot issues with field gear and transmission equipment.
- Requires the ability to work well under the pressure of frequent deadlines.
- Must be able to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Occasional out of town travel is required.
- Must have a valid state driver's license in the state in which the position resides.
