Broadcast Systems Engineer

Summary of Position:
The Audio and Visual Systems Engineer assumes responsibility for facilitating the optimal performance of our audio, video, and lighting systems within our Broadcast campus. This pivotal role encompasses the oversight and coordination of temporary system installations for conferences, as well as the strategic execution of quarterly platform redesigns. Integral to the role is the maintenance of equipment inventory and the fundamental programming of audio, visual, and lighting systems. Collaborating closely with the Creative Director, Core Team Directors, and Broadcast operations teams, the Audio and Visual Systems Engineer spearheads project management efforts and task delegation.

Central to the role is the meticulous production of professional documentation, ensuring internal and industry standards are consistently upheld across evolving systems. Key responsibilities include the creation, review, modification, and archival of various files. These encompass a range of formats such as vector work line drawings, rigging drawings, lighting plots, system flow diagrams, audio signal flow charts, riser elevations, and high and low voltage wiring schematics.

Principal Job Responsibilities:

Technical Expertise:
  • Maintain advanced technical proficiency in audio, video, and lighting systems, including digital mixing consoles, cameras, video switchers, routers, playback/record decks, LED displays, lighting networks, and related equipment.
  • Offer guidance and support to Broadcast campus audio, video, and lighting staff and volunteers in setup, programming, and troubleshooting of production systems.
  • Program and optimize audio mixing systems, lighting consoles, and video gear for live and recorded services.
  • Ensure the seamless integration of audio, video, and lighting systems to create high-quality production experiences.
Production Planning and Execution:
  • Collaborate with Broadcast campus operations leadership to assess audio, video, and lighting equipment and personnel needs for design implementation and redesigns.
  • Ensure seamless integration of audio, video, and lighting elements with other production components such as control systems.
  • Create and maintain documentation on system design, implementation, and project learnings.
Equipment Management:
  • Oversee maintenance, updates, and inventory management of audio, video, and lighting equipment at the Broadcast campus.
  • Troubleshoot audio and visual system issues quickly and effectively to avoid production disruptions.
  • Act as liaison to the Campus Operations team when additional system support is required.
Quality Control:
  • Conduct regular quality assessments of audio and visual systems and services to uphold high production standards, including frequent attendance at services/events.
  • Continuously work to improve gear performance and operational standards for audio, video, and lighting systems.
Safety and Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards for audio, video, lighting, and rigging operations at the Broadcast campus.
  • Implement safety protocols and procedures to mitigate risks during equipment load-in, operation, and load-out.
Vendor and Contractor Management:
  • Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for audio, video, and lighting equipment rentals, repairs, and technical support.
  • Manage vendor relationships to secure cost-effective solutions and timely service delivery.
General Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time-management skills and multitasking ability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with the capacity to learn new software and systems like Slack, Monday.com, etc.
  • 5+ years as an audio, lighting, or video systems engineer or related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of audio signal flow, video systems, and lighting production techniques.
  • Proficiency with systems such as GrandMA3, Dante audio networks, Vectorworks, Riedel Comm, Ross Router, Resolume/ArtNet, and digital audio consoles.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to maintain calm under pressure during live productions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
General Requirements:
  • Must have a flexible schedule with availability to work weekdays, weekends, and special events.
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 2-3 weekends per month. Employee will be allowed to take Thursday and/or Friday to compensate for weekends worked.
  • Salaried positions will require a minimum of 40 hours per week with an average of 45-50 hours per week.

  • Sit/stand for long periods of time.
  • Occasionally kneel or crouch.
  • Lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
