Position Overview
The marketing/communications student assistant will work closely with the Communications Manager at the School of Public Affairs and Administration. This versatile role involves supporting marketing, communications, student recruitment, fundraising, and administrative tasks for the School's academic and professional development programs. The ideal candidate will gain hands-on experience in creating numerous forms of content (written and visual), designing promotional materials, managing social media, and using customer relationship management (CRM) tools.
This part-time position will ideally start work in March/April that will continue through the summer months with the option to continue into the fall semester. Hybrid work is allowed and when not needed for in-person tasks on campus, remote work is encouraged.
Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).

- Create and post content for social media, newsletters, and website news stories/blogs.
- Develop and execute marketing communications strategies outlined by the Communications Manager and School's strategic plans.
- Design flyers, programs, graphics for social media, and other event materials.
- Draft and send donor thank you letters and communications about alumni events.
- Maintain and update communications/marketing tasks in the School's HubSpot CRM system.

Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience with social media platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, and X.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud suites, or Canva.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively as evidenced by cover letter, application, and resume.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and strong work ethic
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
- Currently pursuing a degree in the School of Public Affairs & Administration, School of Journalism and Mass Communications, or School of Business (Marketing).
- Intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft Word and Adobe Creative Cloud suites, or Canva.
- Experience using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, specifically HubSpot.
- Experience using a Content Management System (CMS), specifically HubSpot.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills as demonstrated by application materials and other interactions.
