Job Description: The fire sprinkler design supervisor directs and coordinates activities of a team of engineers and designers to design fire sprinkler systems by performing the following duties outlined below personally or through subordinate personnel. The role requires decisions of high complexity and the review of questions from entry/mid-level designers. A successful team member in this role will demonstrate an exceptional understanding of design/drafting techniques, fire sprinkler installation and fabrication techniques, a strong mechanical aptitude and construction background, and ability to complete mathematical calculations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Direct team activities and prioritize/coordinate schedules to design new fire sprinkler/suppression systems. Provide technical oversight and review of sprinkler drawings, calculations, fabrication lists, and other pertinent deliverables. Develop process improvements that improve efficiency, consistency, and quality of the ultimate product. Support Designers in the coordination with the MEP teams and General Contractors for BIM (Building Information Modeling), utilizing current programs (e.g. REVIT, NAVIS, etc.). Resolve problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, & concepts. Confer with management, production, and installation staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing systems. Provide guidance and support on code interpretation as well as first level plan review. Provide training and coaching for the development of individual designers. Recruit and staff to meet design needs for the growth of the business. Maintain a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations, and develop recommendations accordingly. Key Skills and Capabilities:
Ability to read and interpret construction documents (drawings, specifications, ASIs, etc.). Strong analytical and mathematical aptitude. Proficient with Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel), AutoCAD, and Fire Sprinkler Design software (e.g. AutoSprink, HydraCAD etc.). Working knowledge of hydraulic calculations, stocklisting, project design, and project management. Practical experience designing Wet, Dry, Deluge, and Pre Action Sprinkler Systems for installation. Special Hazards design experience (e.g. fixed water spray, clean agent, foam, etc.) is a plus. Strong familiarity with general construction practices and terms. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable negotiating with customers, vendors, etc. Organized, detail-oriented, self-starter able to operate in a team environment. Working knowledge of NFPA 13, 13D, 13R, 14, 20, 25 and associated Codes/Standards. Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent, postsecondary education preferred. 7 Years (10+ years preferred) experience in Fire Protection Design & PM. Previous fire sprinkler designer supervision experience is a plus. Experience with Revit, NavisWorks, and AutoSprink is a plus. NICET III (min), NICET IV or PE (preferred). Job Type:
