Under the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of the Office of Curriculum & Instructional Design, the Instructional Practices Officer: Provides leadership to research, analyze, recommend and support the implementation of effective national and local instructional practices, especially for sound Tier 1 instruction across subject areas at the elementary, middle and high school levels that is applicable for in-person, blended and/or virtual learning. Strategies should include content specific as well as integrated learning strategies. Creates and maintains a "state" model of basic effective instructional practices that should be expected in every classroom. Designs and provides professional development that can be replicated at the complex area or school site. Collaborates with other OCID personnel, cross offices and stakeholders to plan and implement summit/conferences to share effective academic practices. Provides leadership to research, analyze and recommend high quality curriculum, including national and local programs that are aligned to the content area standards that meet equity expectations. Works within OCID with the equity specialist and content specialists to establish an internally-approved curriculum and program menu for schools to access, including vendor lists and statewide license agreements when applicable. Creates and maintains a permanent database of curricula. Longer term, establishes a process to curate teacher-developed, integrated unit or lesson plans by grade levels and quarters including open educational resources. Collaborates with internal offices, complex areas and external organizations and stakeholders. Collaborates with other offices to provide consultative services to elevate principal instructional leadership to increase student achievement, especially leveraging technology and digital leadership. The partnership may also include research, presentations, design and creation of instructional and curriculum leadership resources, while keeping an innovative mindset as next steps develop. Leads engagement within the Department and with other institutions, businesses, legislators and community agencies locally and nationally to establish partnerships to continuously innovate so students are on a trajectory to meet college, career and workforce aspirations. Leads policy work related to areas of responsibility within the Office of Curriculum and Instructional Design. Contributes, collaborates and actively participates with cross offices and stakeholders with the design, implementation, reflection and refinement of state plans including, but not limited to, the federal initiatives and state strategic plan. Performs other related duties as assigned. Education:
Graduation from an accredited college of university with a master's degree in education with specialization in educational administration or any other area of education which included coursework in educational administration.
Experience:
Nine (9) years of responsible professional work experience of which four (4) years shall have been in teaching and five (5) years in school administration, instructional services and/or educational program planning of which two (2) years shall have involved the supervision of professional personnel.
Desired Experience:
Of the required years above, specific experience (a) supervising innovative instructional practices and implementation of high quality curriculum and programs; (b) with sound, effective, foundational academic practices and principles including, but not limited to, utilizing effective digital tools and resources to increase student achievement; and (c) providing professional development and design of systemic processes to increase effective instruction and curriculum development.
Knowledge:
Foundations of curriculum and instruction; instructional media and computers; foundations of American education; tests and measurements; principles of learning and individual differences; curriculum design and development; educational statistics; instructional methods, materials and evaluation; media and instructional development; information systems in education; systems approach to educational management; characteristics and needs of exceptional individuals; purposes, methods, subject matter and materials pertinent to the areas of assignment; laws, rules, regulations and administrative procedures pertinent to the areas of assignment; principles and practices of supervision and management; research developments, trends and current issues or problems pertinent to the areas of assignment.

Ability to:

SALARY RANGE:
EOSR-10, $124,812 to $176,687.
Department of Education certificated employees will be placed on the salary range in accordance with Department regulations. All others will be placed on the first step of $124,812.

However, placement above the initial step of the salary range will be based on special characteristics and critical needs of the position, an applicant's exceptional qualifications, the availability of funds, and other relevant factors. WORK YEAR AND BENEFITS:
This appointment will be on a 12-month basis with vacation and sick leave provided according to applicable regulations.
