Job Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced
Communications Director
to lead and oversee the communication strategies for our nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals in recovery from addiction. The ideal candidate will manage all internal and external communications to elevate our mission, engage stakeholders, and foster a compassionate, stigma-free understanding of addiction recovery. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep commitment to the cause, exceptional leadership abilities, and strong media and storytelling skills. Promote a compassionate and positive narrative around addiction recovery and the services provided. Lead brand management initiatives to maintain consistent messaging across all channels. Media Relations: Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and influencers who align with our mission. Oversee press releases, media kits, and crisis communications plans. Storytelling and Content Development: Oversee the creation of compelling, sensitive, and impactful content, including success stories, blogs, newsletters, press releases, and social media posts. Ensure all messaging reflects a respectful and strengths-based approach to addiction recovery. Internal Communications: Collaborate with leadership, program teams, and volunteers to ensure consistent messaging within the organization. Support staff engagement through clear communication of organizational updates and initiatives. Community and Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with community leaders, donors, and recovery advocates to promote the organization's work and mission. Develop campaigns and events to build awareness and support for addiction recovery. Team Leadership and Collaboration: Manage and mentor a team of communications professionals, volunteers, and external vendors. Analytics and Reporting: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies using analytics tools. Provide regular reports and insights to leadership on communication performance. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field. Proven experience (1+ years) in a communications role, preferably in the nonprofit sector. Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills. Strong understanding of addiction recovery, trauma-informed communication, and person-centered language. Proficiency in digital marketing, social media, and media relations. Skills and Attributes: Deep empathy and understanding of addiction recovery and related issues. Strategic mindset with the ability to translate goals into actionable communication plans. Proficiency in media monitoring and analytics tools. Creative, detail-oriented, and highly organized. Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills. Working Conditions:
