One Hat One Hand is seeking a qualified Designer/Project Manager to join our growing studio. This position requires Design and Fabrication experience in industrial design, architecture, and fabrication, as well as engagement in industry-related positions such as presentation design and project management. The right candidate is detail-oriented, communicative, excited by teamwork, and has a passion for creative expression and problem-solving.
Overview
A Designer/PM at One Hat One Hand is responsible for the successful completion and delivery of all contracted scope for a given project. This includes creating constructible three-dimensional designs, and then developing illustrative visualizations and diagrams that describe the final forms to both the client and the fabrication team for construction. Throughout the project, a Designer/PM needs to collaborate with the estimating, production, and finishing teams as well as outside consultants to ensure that the design is brought to life in both an experientially stunning and cost-efficient way.
Primary Responsibilities
The following are key duties and responsibilities of a Designer/PM at OHOH:
Develop design concepts, 3D visualizations, and presentation decks for client meetings
Collaborate with the internal Production and Finishing Departments for prototyping strategies, build drawings, production schedules, and install and maintenance plans
Create technical documentation for coordination with contractors, structural engineering, MEP engineering, and permitting
Create cut files for internal fabrication team and external vendors and manage their schedule and deliverables
Coordinate and conduct meetings with project stakeholders; create agendas, take detailed notes, and distribute follow-up materials
Maintain communication with stakeholders regarding scope, schedule, and budget throughout the project lifecycle
Project-based time management of hours allocated per phase and task
Coordinate fabrication schedules within and between projects
Track and manage project finances, expense reports, source and order materials, and coordinate deliveries
Compile final documentation of project (photos, designs, descriptions)
Essential Skills and Experience:
Project management, client management, schedule creation and management, and construction administration
Detail-oriented with professional meeting etiquette and management skills; agenda creation, concise note-taking, and punctuality
Highly creative, detail-oriented, and strong critical thinking
Clear and concise written and spoken communication skills
Digital fabrication experience including CNC, laser cutting, waterjet, and 3D printing
Knowledge of wood, steel, aluminum, acrylic, foams, plastics, and casting fabrication and finishing techniques
Proficient in G-suite, Asana, Adobe Suite, CAD, Rhino, Sketchup, Vectorworks, V-Ray, Enscape, Blender, Unreal
Personal Attributes & General Requirements
Willing to travel and work during evenings, weekends, or extended hours when required
Positive attitude and flexibility with tight deadlines and changing scopes
Ability to problem-solve through unknown design challenges
