JOB SUMMARY

Perform services that ensure that library building and property, are maintained in safe operating condition, and for optimal appearance and use by customers and staff. Works to maintain a safe and secure environment for library Patrons and staff and helps to provide effective access to resources.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Provide excellent customer service to ensure the highest quality of service as established by the City of Page.
  • Cleans and dusts tables, counters, other furniture, and shelving units of all types and removes trash from containers in the public service areas using appropriate cleaning products to provide a clean and sanitary environment.
  • Maintains floors to provide a clean and safe environment with a neat appearance.
  • Cleans restrooms to provide a neat and clean appearance and a sanitary environment for customers and staff.
  • Cleans and replenishes supplies in restrooms.
  • Cleans staff work area and staff break room to provide a clean and neat work environment.
  • Maintains grounds to provide safe, neat, and tidy outdoor environment.
  • Performs periodic cleaning projects, including heavy cleaning, and other duties as assigned to make the library an attractive, clean, and safe environment for staff and customers.
  • Completes special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains service records and test records for equipment such as fire alarm systems, fire extinguishers, HVAC system and similar equipment.
  • Set up meeting rooms (table and chair arrangements) for scheduled events.
  • Enforces Library policies as appropriate.
  • Investigates and handles disturbances and, as needed, obtains assistance of law enforcement officers.
  • Operates wet/dry vacuum for cleaning and shampooing carpeted areas.
  • Empties trash and recycling receptacles and readies trash for regular waste pickup.
  • Maintains equipment used in the position.
  • Reports any maintenance concerns or unsafe conditions to the LIBRARY MANAGER.
  • Periodically tours building and grounds, examining doors and windows to determine whether they are secure and not tampered with.
  • Provide security presence to the library.
  • Provides Library manager with details of incidents to assist with investigations and documentation of incidents.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent preferred.
Licenses or Certifications:
  • Valid Arizona Driver License.
Special Requirements:
  • Must be willing to work evenings and Saturdays. Must be able to work occasional, unscheduled, after hours.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of computer word processing programs is desirable.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of skills and abilities in using equipment, materials, and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills in the use of equipment and supplies necessary to do minor repairs.
  • Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedules. Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to learn the library’s automated system; willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during work.
  • Knowledge of Dewey decimal classification tables and LC Subject Headings.
  • Must have ability to reason, ability to make decisions within proper framework and to make accurate word and symbol comparisons.
  • Ability to interact with co-workers and establish effective working relationships.
  • Must have very good writing skills and verbal communication ability.
  • Ability to perform minor repairs and use standard hand tools, shovels, brooms, floor buffer, carpet cleaner, lawn equipment, snow blower, and other equipment.
  • Physical ability to move furniture and equipment, boxes and containers of library materials, operate floor cleaning and maintenance equipment and do other tasks.
  • Must be able to follow standard office environment safety requirements.
  • Ability to work under stress, frequent interruptions, and changes in work priorities.
  • Works independently and takes initiative to successfully complete duties.
  • Punctuality and dependability.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crouching, feeling, fingering, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, and visual acuity.
