Job Description
HOURS & SALARY: Minimum of three hours per month, with a hiring range of $14.89 – $16.75 an hour.
Laramie County Library System is looking for enthusiastic, customer service-minded individuals to be Substitute Library Assistants. This position works a variable schedule including evenings and weekends, sometimes on short notice, on an as-needed basis, with a minimum of three hours monthly. The primary role of this position is working at the public service desks to create a welcoming environment for patrons by greeting them, responding to their requests for service, and assisting with their information needs. Substitute Library Assistants may be scheduled at any Laramie County Library branch (Cheyenne, Burns or Pine Bluffs).

JOB SUMMARY:
The Substitute Library Assistant works a variable schedule including evenings and weekends, sometimes on short notice, on an as-needed basis. Substitute Library Assistants create a welcoming environment for patrons by greeting them and responding to their requests for service. They assist patrons with their information needs. Substitute shifts may be scheduled at any Laramie County library branch.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains patron confidentiality in compliance with Wyoming state law.
- Provides exceptional customer service.
- Provides services to assist users with library accounts, materials and reference at public service desks and by phone.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs opening and closing duties at library facility and provides other backup support to colleagues as needed.
- Communicates effectively with team members to ensure efficient operations.
- Maintains knowledge of procedures and policies of LCLS. Interprets and applies policy in order to make decisions regarding patrons and procedures.
- Observes patron behavior in relation to the Code of Conduct. Follows guidelines for applying standards and consequences. Enlists assistance from other employees, managers, administration, security, and law enforcement as needed. Reports violations in a timely and professional manner.
- Substitute Library Assistants may have the opportunity to gain additional skills and training to have a larger range of assignments and opportunities.

WORK SCHEDULE
The schedule consists of day, weekend, and/or evening hours on an as-needed basis.
Laramie County Library Hours:
- Cheyenne: Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m., Friday-Sunday 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
- Burns Branch: Monday 1:00-5:00 p.m., Tuesday & Friday 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Thursday 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Wednesday & Sunday Closed.
- Pine Bluff Branch: Tuesday 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m., Wednesday & Thursday 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Friday 1:00-5:00 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Monday & Sunday Closed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High School graduate; and
- 6 months of relevant experience; or
- The equivalent combination of education and experience.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Proficiency with a variety of software programs related to library operations including word processing, scheduling/calendaring/email, and integrated library systems.
- Ability to work with limited supervision with an aptitude for detailed work and proficiency in prioritizing tasks.
- Accurate numerical and alphabetical filing skills.
- Ability to enter data into a computerized database, spreadsheet, document or other system.
- Proficiency in applying good customer service skills.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual English/Spanish language skills
- Experience working with people from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
