Position Summary

Austin Peay State University is currently seeking a full-time staff Enrollment Coordinator for the Department of Music. The Department of Music at Austin Peay State University, an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music, enjoys a vital presence on campus, in the Clarksville community, and in the region. The Department boasts a nationally recognized and acoustically superior concert hall, along with outstanding performance, practice, rehearsal, and studio spaces. The Department of Music is an integral member of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA https://apsu.edu/ceca/). A long-established state-funded initiative, CECA is designed to enhance the cultural environment of the university, community, and region through a diverse range of imaginative arts experiences.

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with prospective students and their families to interest, attract, and increase the quality and quantity of new music students, providing information on all aspects of our program, including audition procedures, scholarships, degree programs, and course offerings.
  • Manage admissions communications with applicants, families, teachers, and high school directors/counselors.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date recruitment files on potential students.
  • Assist in coordinating and implementing recruitment events and activities.
  • Coordinate and schedule undergraduate auditions for the Department of Music.
  • Liaise closely with Music Department faculty, the Department's Scholarship Committee, Financial Aid, and the APSU Office of Admissions.
  • Represent the Department of Music at college fairs and professional events as assigned.
  • Assist in the production of promotional materials, including Department of Music brochures, posters, displays, etc.
  • Coordinate the publication of Department of Music ads in professional magazines and conference programs.
  • Collaborate in the editing and management of the Department of Music web pages.
  • Serve as administrator of the APSU Department of Music social media accounts.
  • Plan and implement programs to increase student engagement and retention.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience in recruitment, public relations, office management, and general office procedures.
  • Ability to manage a busy work environment effectively
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with department chair, faculty, and staff within the Department of Music.
  • Exhibit exceptional people skills and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook and the ability to learn other necessary programs.
  • Produce appropriate graphic design products in order to coordinate social media.
  • Work special events and travel for recruitment purposes.


Physical Requirements
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.


Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree; understanding of current music trends and professional careers;
  • Commitment to and experience working with individuals from diverse communities;
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills;
  • Database management skills.


Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in music or other creative discipline; experience producing music events; experience in academic recruitment/admissions.
