Position Summary

The Production Designer I is an entry-level creative position that combines technical production expertise with strategic design thinking. This role is responsible for preparing, formatting, and setting up design files for print and signage production while contributing to the creative process and maintaining brand standards. The Production Designer I supports various internal clients by executing production-level design tasks and providing creative input on technical feasibility.

This is a full-time, onsite position at Graphcom's Orrtanna, PA location.

  • Consistently delivers high-quality service to all clients
  • Develops, designs, and executes production-ready artwork following brand guidelines and technical specifications
  • Works closely with Art Director and senior staff to organize, plan, and prioritize work by developing specific goals and plans to accomplish work
  • Prepares and formats files for various printing processes including digital, offset, and large format printing, ensuring all technical specifications are met
  • Conceptualizes and develops practical solutions for production challenges while maintaining design integrity
  • Ensures user friendliness and technical accuracy in both print and digital projects
  • Works with Data Processing/Pre-Media team in the design/branding of documents with variable data
  • Reviews and preflights incoming files from clients and designers, identifying and resolving potential production issues before they reach the printing stage
  • Sets up files with proper bleeds, crop marks, color settings, and resolution requirements for different printing applications and substrates
  • Assists in facilitating team and client meetings to address technical requirements and creative solutions
  • Performs color separations, creates print-ready PDFs, and manages file versions and archiving
  • Creates and modifies templates for common print items while ensuring design consistency
  • Organizes and maintains digital assets within the company's digital asset management system, ensuring proper file naming, versioning, and accessibility
  • Conducts quality checks on proofs and printed materials
  • Other duties as assigned and may assist in other departments on an as-needed basis
Minimum Job Requirements
  • 4-year college degree in a related field and/or associate's degree in graphic design is preferred
  • 0-2 years of relevant design and print production experience
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop) and Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word and PowerPoint) required
  • Understanding of print production processes, color management, and file preparation
  • Strong sense of concept development and problem-solving abilities
  • Knowledge of various file formats and their appropriate uses in production
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow technical specifications precisely
  • Understanding of typography and layout principles
  • Self-starter willing to learn, develop, and polish the skills needed to succeed in a creative agency environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively
  • Complete all required training courses upon hire and annually thereafter
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures

  • Extended periods of computer use with attention to detail
  • Moderate lifting/carrying - up to 10lbs.

  • Ability to work in a production environment with exposure to printing equipment
  • May require occasional overtime to meet deadlines
  • In-person attendance required; this position is not eligible for remote work at this time.
