Position Overview: The Sunday Catholic Service Music Director is responsible for planning, coordinating, and leading musical elements for Sunday Catholic worship services and associated special events. This includes directing the choir, managing rehearsals, and collaborating with the Catholic Service Chaplain to ensure all musical selections align with liturgical standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Service Leadership:

   • Provide musical leadership for weekly Sunday Catholic worship services (60-75 minutes per service).

   • Arrive at least 60 minutes before each service for rehearsal and final coordination with the officiating chaplain.

   • Lead worship and congregational singing, including opening and closing hymns.

2. Rehearsals:

   • Conduct weekly choir rehearsals (60-75 minutes per rehearsal).

   • Coordinate all actions and musical selections with the Catholic Service Chaplain prior to rehearsals and services.

3. Special Services:

   • Provide music for special services, including Christmas, Easter, Holy Week, funerals, and memorial services, with at least 24 hours’ notice.

4. Program Development:

   • Actively recruit and train volunteer musicians to support a robust music program.

   • Collaborate with chapel staff to ensure high-quality worship experiences.

5. Administrative Duties:

   • Submit weekly music selections to the chaplain by 4:00 PM each Friday.

   • Catalog and maintain music and equipment in the Catholic music library.

   • Ensure all musical equipment is properly stored after use.

6. Compliance:

   • Adhere to chapel operating instructions and security protocols for facility use.

   • Pass all required background checks and security clearances.

   • Provide a qualified substitute during absences, subject to chaplain approval.

7. Professional Development:

   • Attend worship clinics and professional conferences as necessary to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Roman Catholic Church musician and/or worship team director.

• Proficient in individual singing, piano/keyboard playing, and leading congregational singing.

• Extensive knowledge of Catholic music, including hymns, anthems, and choral works.

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with chapel staff, volunteers, and parishioners.

• Ability to maintain professional decorum and appearance suitable for a chapel environment.

• Must pass a background investigation, including criminal history and security checks.

Working Hours:

• Weekly commitment of approximately 3.25 to 3.5 hours (service and rehearsal).

• Additional hours for special services and events as required.

• Monthly total of approximately 13 to 14 hours, excluding special services.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to perform tasks requiring prolonged standing, sitting, and repetitive movements (e.g., playing musical instruments).

• Capability to lift and transport small musical equipment as needed.
